Bitix 40 5 Pin #bitx40

The new bitix board has a revision with no socket for the 5 pin plug and there is nothing in the instructions to tell where the plug goes nor any help from seller its as if he does not know of revision so here is a pix of where it goes. ?

Looks like that regulator still sticks out like a sore thumb on the raduino and the si5351 is not on the mother board where it really belongs.? However getting the spur/harmonic issues resolved is a huge step.

Regulator sticking out? Remedy: solder-blob all 3 pins, remove IC, suck/wick/poke (gently!) holes clean and re-insert IC on other (really the 'top') side - keeping original orientation. There's room (at least there is on my old one) to tilt it over inside the board-profile... a heatsink might not fit though :( ...
SI5351 on main board? Good idea, if it could fit - maybe an (Adruino-style) shield or (Raspberry-Pi) HAT? Keeping wiring just control: near-DC ... :)

Regulator remedy #2.? Swap the outside pins on the board and the thing now lays flat to the inside on the board and out of the way.

?

In my RF design classes (eons ago) I was taught to keep RF signals localized and shielded as much as possible.? The si5351 on the Raduino board is the exact opposite. The shield idea works but doesn’t really fix the problem.? The si5351 should be as close to the mixers as possible.

The 5v regulator used to be on the other side of the board, and sticking out from the side. Now it is a much better spot (same circuit, just mounted on the other side of the board) where it is much easier to mount a heat sink. You can bend the legs a bit if it interferes with anything.

Good info. I just received mine and wish the wireup on the hf website was updated. There is no mic and earphone jack hookup and mine came with a .1 capacitor. I found out where to put it on another site across L7 to reduce harmonics. I plan on a ten turn pot and to update the firmware to add a push button and usb. I see a Capacitor in your picture as well across the tuning pot it looks like so maybe that is where is was intended to go I dont know. This should be fun. I have a Ubitx as well and the wireup was much better so I think the Bitx40 should be updated.

Mark,
The 0.1 uF capacitor goes on the tuning pot between wiper and GND.
you can add a 100 pF capacitor in parallel with L7 to reduce the second harmonic.
