Abandoning my uBitx Ver 3

I am giving up on my uBitx?as it's just too much for this OM to try completing all the mods needed to have working and legal radio. Surface mount is just too hard with the incessant shaking of my hands. I can handle winding coils and through-hole components without a lot?of issues. I appreciate all the great design and modification efforts that have gone into the radio but it just too much for me. As a receiver it's performance is quite good. I will be offering it for sale in the near future. I'm not sure what all I will include in its sale but anything I won't need that was purchased specifically for the uBitx will likely be included.
I will be waiting for the new QSX from QRP-Labs. I built?the Ultimate 3S and am very pleased with its performance and feel this is the best move for me. I want to thank everyone for the re-engineering, guidance, and support for here.? |

Its a shame to give up your built &? fully tested board now? Why not buy a V5? Or maybe wait for the new V6? Glad you are still building with the challenge. On QSX, I found the QCX to be quite dense. Labels too small out of necessity for space. No problem. I matched part locations from screen to board with Hans fantastic documentation. On ubitx, it can be modified with minimal change to the board.? The gotcha now is few kits to make the fixes, until some merchants emerge. My ubitx has only a relay daughter board, a little LC filter and now a simple AGC. I might even stop with these. Maybe a v6 will come out in a year or so, maybe never.

For now it is just vague speculation on the part of forum members. Nothing has ever been said about anything beyond v5 by either Farhan or HFSignals. I think we have the right mods now to tame the v3, so I will be giving it a go soon, I already have some work in addressing some of the problem areas. I don¡¯t have a scope so I can only follow instructions that guaranty a improvement. I could probably ghetto rig my SDR and spectrum analyzer program and get a reference of my transmission. ? Will the new QSX be sold in assembled boards? O have a Genesis 30-20m I have been building since years. Although they have no SMD having a lot of components is a long process to mount, also the check of each stage takes a lot of time. I found the Ubitx far easier to have it done. The only mod that was not easy was the relays replacement and this was due because they were through hole! If the were SMD I think they would have easier to remove! What I like in this ubitx SMD boards is that components are spaced quite enough to allow easy mods with through hole components just mounted in a Manhattan style. The 10W HF Linear PA kit is a module of the QSX and is all through-hole see ? The rest of the QSX boards are pre-assembled SMD. However you need to assemble the buttons, connectors, rotary encoders, and the toroids, and a few other things. There is a built-in inductance meter which is used to check the toroids' inductance before installation.? So... while QSX is a KIT not a ready-assembled unit, it is not a difficult kit. The number of components to install is relatively small. In particular, all controls are board-mounted so there is no wiring.? All details 73 Hans G0UPL |

Thanks Hans for the clarifications. I look forward receiving the QSX! Yesterday I 'sold' a uBitx on the air! It happened that the ham I was talking to (and he was using a Yaesu 9000... ) was so favorably impressed of my modulation he asked me all the details of the uBitx and the HFSignals to buy it directly from India.
