Sbitx Advisory: Do not transmit !

We got to the bottom of the PAs blowing. The PA being overdriven to almost 80 watts on the lower bands. This is due to a badly configured hw_settings.ini. We are updating this.
Until then, do not transmit at a drive setting of more than 30.
Just hang on until we push a new update.

Oops,

I made about 30 QSOs on CW with full power (40W out measured on 20m with drive set to 100).
It looks like it survived luckily.

OK, QRX for next commands from mothership.

Many thanks Farhan,

Farhan,

Could you or someone at HF Signals answer the following questions for me?

1. Does this advisory apply to the Developer's Edition or v2 units or all sBITX units?
2. When the update is pushed out, will it work with the Developer's Edition?
3. If the update will work with the Developer's Edition, what modifications must have been completed in order for it to run on the Developer's Edition without causing damage to the unit?

Thank you in advance for your patience with my lack of understanding.

For V2 and also the DE I fine tune the hw_settings.ini myself by logging in through SSH. I also have a new wattmeter with a big digital display in addition to my analog MFJ meter. I don't trust either in isolation! The readings vary too much. I limit maximum power to 30 watts on the lower bands. I have enough blown IRFZ24Ns to make my wife a necklace. Probably shouldn't do that, though.

Jack, how did you log in through SSH? I have been trying but I always get 'wrong password'. What password are you using?

Thanks,
Yvon.

The password is hf12345

It applies to both. The hw_settings.ini needs to be tweaked. The DE will have to do it manually.
2. When the update is pushed out, will it work with the Developer's Edition?
Yes it will

You will need to complete the update2 and install the real time clock module shipped out.

Thank you in advance for your patience with my lack of understanding.

Thanks Ashhar.

By plugging in a keyboard to one of the USB ports you can open a terminal window. Type “sudo raspi-config” and you can enable SSH, change the password and the host name. It’s easier and safer than fiddling with the configuration files in /etc

Farhan, I sent a direct message, please check it.

Has this been fixed yet?

I see on Github that Farhan is working on power calibrations in the last 12 hours, so it shouldn't be much longer. I've been TXing on mine, I just make sure the drive is low enough to only produce no more than 20 watts on the band I'm working, no problems.
