Hust put together the kit and have a question
John Cunliffe W7ZQ
Hi Everyone,
I just put my first V6.1 kit together, just to find out its pretty useless at my location without a 2MHz hpf? since I have several AM stations blasting and swamping the front end. 50cents of parts later it works fine,? Also, I have a question about the board is this just a simple 2 layer board or is it a multi layer board? I need to drill a couple of holes to piggyback a couple of small boards and don't want to destroy any traces that are possibly sandwiched in. I still need to finish reading the forums to find what changes are needed to make the CEC software work with the V6.1 color display or if I have to buy a new one. Thanks,? John |
Good to hear it works!

It's a two layer board, no worries about hidden traces or planes. Hold it up to the light and with a bit of study you can probably verify this for yourself. I don't have a v5 or v6, but I don't think the KD8CEC firmware works with the new TFT display. Many v6 owners are happy with Reed's firmware. Hi Everyone, |
John,
The board is a two-layer board.? You can see all of the traces, none are hidden. I would first think through why you want to go to the KD9CEC software.? If it is for the enhanced features and you decide you do want those capabilities, then you will need a new display.? There is at least one other option, Reed N has an update to the stock software that improves the screen update and has more standard CW characteristics.? You might want to look at that code: There are others listed on this board that you might want to look into as well. If you are set on the Nextion with KD8CEC software, then here is a link to how to modify the v6: One note is that with a little elongation of the holes on the Nextion screen, you can get it to fit in the mounting holes of the stock case. The KD8CEC software does not work with the stock v6 graphic display. 73 Evan AC9TU |

Thank you for your input,
I will look at Reeds display. My problem is that the stock units frequency readout is so small and tuning is buggy it skips between 100 and 300khz unless one tunes very. very slowly in the fine tune mode. I already got rid of the original case, its too small to add more of the features I am envision to install. The original case will be modified into a signal generator lol. I bought the whole kit because it was available in the US with 2 day shipping from Giga Parts for~ the same price as from India. John |

The stock firmware may still be designed that faster rotation of the encoder produces much larger tuning jumps, since the rig doesn't have another way to quickly qsy. Other firmware designers have tweaked this.? Remember this is a global rig design, at a lower price point than the alternatives. Yet many add whatever add ons they wish. The previous generations came with a simple lid, and two different color display types of scaleable size he been used. I am not sure ubitx.net is still that active, but there and other places will discuss display tradeoffs and available firmware. Evan has good advice here. Curt |

John: Is the tuning encoder using polling or interrupts? It sounds like polling. Jack, W8TEE
