No Rx from my V4.3

Hello to? One & All...

Put together this uBitx . I have double checked all the wiring and all is correct .
But when I power it up all I can hear is?? hiss? from the speaker . I uploaded V5 Firmware but this has made no difference . I have the radio connected to?
50 feet of wire which is outside the Shack & up about 12 feet in the air.?
Not great?@ TROUBLESHOOTING? but have a feeling it is the settings that are not correct ?? Have seen a few posts from people with similar problems?
but I dont?know where to start and dont?really understand digital radio & SDR in general .?
Anybody got any? ?simple things I could check or try? ....and assume I know nothing ( which I dont ! )?
Thanks for reading?
Kind Regards?

Can you hear static or at least an increase in background noise
as you plug the antenna in?

Perhaps bring a wire from the antenna connector over near the 25mhz
crystal of the Si5351 on the Raduino, see if you can tune that in.

Could be as simple as a bad BNC antenna connector.? In the distant past,
some of the supplied BNC connectors were machined incorrectly, and did not
reliably make contact.? Use an ohmmeter to verify that the antenna wire is connected
all the way into the main board of the uBitx.? And while you are at it, make sure the
antenna wire is not shorted to ground.

Here's an old Video of Farhan using one or two meters of wire (connected to nothing)
as an antenna to inject local QRM into the various stages of a Bitx40,
this same trick should work on the uBitx as well.

If your issue is an issue with menu settings or needing a to go through some?
calibration sequence, I defer to others here more familiar with current firmware.

Jerry, KE7ER?

If there's a nearby AM broadcast station down around 1mhz,
try tuning that in.? Or whatever else might be especially loud in your area.

Can you hear a nearby AM broadcast station when you tune down around 1MHZ

Patrick,
The v5 firmware uses a different SSB filter frequency.? That software will not work with a v4 board.? Here is a link to the KD8CEC software that has both the v4 and v5 board software.?

You want to use the uBITXV234 folder selecting the file that matches your display.? If it is the stock v4 1602 display then the file is?UBITX_CEC_V1.200_16P.hex.?The hex files are loaded into the Nano with Xloader.

If you want to go back to the stock v4 software, here is the link:

I would suggest the KD8CEC software, as that has more features and options for CW operation that the stock does not.

Once you have the correct software I would then start the troubleshooting as Jerry suggested.

Have fun with the rig.

OK Jerry , Thanks for your reply . I think my problem is the wrong software / firmware is on the Chip and it isnt compatible with the Version 4.3 Board .

Have learned a lot in the last 24 hours ....but it sure is a lot od trial and error !

Thanks?

Hi Evan , Thanks for Your Reply .? Yes , I seem to have uploaded the? wrong? firmware onto the Arduino Nano . I did origionally try the KD8CEC Software but the links?
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?on his site didnt work for me . Spent a lot of time today and? ran into computer problems . Discovered that XLoader downloads? wont open on 1 Laptop?
Downloaded it onto a different laptop and cant put files onto the XLoader Box .... My Head was wrecked with all these problems? but I am 80% there tonight !

May even go back to the origional v4.3 firmware !??

Thanks Again for replying to my query and for sending me the links to the various bits of software ....all very helpful , Evan ..
Know a lot more tonight than I did last night !?
Thanks Again , Evan?
Kind Regards?

Patrick,
If you cannot work out the Xloader issues, then you can download the source code from the same link as the hex files.? It is a different zip file.

If you go that route, then you will need to go into the ubitx.h tab and be sure to set the?
#define UBITX_BOARD_VERSION 5? ? ? ? ? ?//v1 ~ v4 : 4, v5:?

to a 4, and select the correct display in the following lines.? Then compile and load.?

Since you have loaded a program to the Nano before, I assume that what you have works with the Raduino Nano.

I believe that the Xloader download has security issues in that it is not registered.? That means you need to allow it to download and then run.? I kind of remember the concern I had with bypassing the Windows security feature.

Feel free to post with specifics of your error messages if you need more help.? It is always best to do so in this same thread so that others can follow and learn.? If you would rather do so out of the groups.io then private message me if you wish.

AC9TU ..EVAN?

Hi Evan , Thank You so Much for your last reply . I got stuck into this XLoader debacle today . I downloaded an older version?of it ( V 1.0 ) and put that onto?
an older Laptop I have here which runs off Windows 8 .? I was downloading? V1.332 on the other Laptops but it wasnt? working .?
The second I downloaded XLoader V 1.00 it worked a treat . I then downloaded the uBitx Firmware , the exact version You sent the link for . Only for You telling me the Exact?
Hex File I would?have been totally lost ...again !? ? Eventually uploaded all onto the Nano Board and when I powered up the Radio ...CW was coming out of the Speaker at full volume !
Success ...I can hear loads of signals now and the Radio seems to work ...I suspect I need to fine tune it a little? but I have something to start with now once I can hear signals .

Thanks Again for Your Help , Evan ...at long last after a lot of? trial and error I have this uBitx V4.3? working and receiving ...this is what I love about Amateur Radio , everybody helps one?
another and there is always somebody out there who can answer a question or solve a problem ...
If You ever come and visit Ireland , I owe? You a Pint ( or maybe 2? )? of Guinness? for your help !
Thanks Evan?
