uBITX How to wire key jack for paddles?

Got my uBITX yesterday - case has been prepped and I'm now wiring up the Audio and Digital connectors.? My kit had the extra 10K and 2.2K resistors to set up the voltage divider for the key paddles but for the life of me, I cannot find the wiring diagram to set this up right.? The production wiring on github and on HF Signals website for the uBITX only show the 4.7K pullup to 5Volts but nothing for the other two resistors or where they need to be connected.

This needs to be corrected in the wire-up documentation too please.

from the key jack, a 2.2K to the dot padde, a 10K to the dash paddle. they are in the kit.

Thanks Ashhar, I have it working now - also I did finally find where you first wrote about it and have printed that information to save with the documentation.

Absolutely fantastic little rig.? First CW QSO should come tomorrow - the bands are dead this evening - I still need to find a weak SSB signal to set the BFO better,?

Jim

Probably a dumb question. Are the 2 resistors wired to the cw jack respectively?

Ashhar,

The photo of the key jack in 3.3 of the wiring instructions shows the wires connected to the ring not the tip. Couldn't work out why my external keyer wouldn't key the rig as I wired according to the photo not the words.

I noticed that as well.? The "Wiring UP" schematic on both pages is incorrect and needs to be corrected or there will be many "Dumb" questions regarding why CW won't work with standard keys.? Also, I have one paddle that gets used with several rigs so installing the 10K and 2.2K resistors in the paddle line or paddle itself is NOT an option.? My suggestion is add a jack for paddles and wire the resistors from the appropriate tip and ring tabs to the A4 line on the "hand" key jack.? This is the way many commercial rigs do it and it even allows a hand key to be connected at the same time as paddles.?

See picture for paddle wiring. Dot to ring dah to tip.

With code changes could be used for a straight key also assuming it has a mono plug. Read A6 at start up. If 5v run paddle code. If 1.6v run straight key code.

Hi Ashar,
in your previous message on this post you said, "from the key jack, a 2.2K to the dot padde, a 10K to the dash paddle"
where do they go on the other side of each resistor..Perhaps you could make a schematic ?

thanks,

Hi Kelly,
looking at your picture above of the resistors you are using, they do not seem to be the 2.2k, and the 10k, and 4.7k, did you modify yours ?

Hi Kevin

This is the circuit from ubitz.net for straight key and iambic key.

I have avoided the straight key jack by wiring a stereo plug with the straight key wire connected to the DIT contact. (In my case it is the ring as I have a left handed iambic key). I am using Ian's 1.08 firmware version which allows you to select straight key or iambic key. Just plug in the appropriate key and away you go.
