should I keep bitxmap.com going?
About 3 years ago I set up as a way for us to show the world wide spread of BITX enthusiasts.? To date we have over 500 operators on the map and over 33,000 views.? It is a google map with a simple redirect on the domain so there is no hosting cost.? The domain however is up for renewal again.? I am happy to keep it going if it is still being used and anyone finds value in it.? I am also willing to bet that since the initial excitement has died down anyone new to the BITX community doesn't even know it exists.? So my questions to the group are, do you use the map?? Should I keep it going?? I always intended this to be an open project so if someone else wants to do something bigger with it I would be happy to transfer the domain as long as you keep it open and free.

I didn't know the site existed. Just added my call to the map. Please keep it. Bob WB8BEL From: "Doug W" <dougwilner@...> To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, May 14, 2020 10:24:45 AM Subject: [BITX20] should I keep bitxmap.com going? -- |

I had forgotten about this web site and how handy it is.? I vote to keep it going if you can.? Boy, it would be nice to have a reference to it on the ubitx web site so potential users could get an idea of what they are missing.

At some point, we will have?the capability?to map the 'live' status of bitxes around the globe too! then we can call them! - f On Fri, May 15, 2020 at 3:15 AM Dave Esquer <dave.esquer@...> wrote: Yep, didn't know about it! Added myself here in Running Springs, CA.? |

It takes about 3 clicks to change your user icon.? All we need is an icon indicating live and the operator just changes to it when they are live.? It won't be perfect and the key is keeping up the discipline to change it back when you're done.? I'll try to cobble something together.? Group, would you use that? ? -- |
Greetings from sunny South Africa :-)
Please keep map active and idea of showing station status will be good as well. Seems I entered my details some time ago but then forgot about using... Idea of a 'reminder' would likely be appreciated by many. Keep safe and thank you again for creating. P.S. I accidentally added a new entry whilst attempting to navigate on mobile and discovered that it is possible to delete point simply by logging in... Hope there is some sort of 'master back-up' in place in case of accident or worse still deliberate vandalism... 73 |

In the beginning I had to restore it regularly as people were figuring out how to use it.? I don't remember his name to give proper credit but another user helped figure out how to run the backup as google has a unique way of finding the kml to automate it. ? -- |
