buttons...

I have my (first) BITX40 and the case (actually two for some unknown reason) arrived the other day. I have yet to hay-wire it together so I can play with it (hopefully today) but I'm trying to do some planning for the case. With all of the various mods available, how many push-buttons should I plan on for on the front of the case?

I think
function button?
key/atu
spot

Optional
on/off

I would recommend three right off the bat. You'll need one for push-to-talk. I strongly recommend just doing the galloping VFO fix with +/- tune buttons right away. Tuning the BITX 40 can be tricky and cumbersome with the stock tuning method.?

If you plan to do the rotary encoder mod, however, then you might leave those two holes out and live with it for now.?

Not if you replace the stock 1-turn tuning pot by a 10-turn pot. Then you can tune over a wide range and you won't need the "anti-galopping" mod involving two extra buttons.

Ah I see...
Isn't there a fellow ham in your neighbourhood with a PC who could install
the latest software for you? It would allow you to extend the tuning range
plus it will enable many other features such as dual VFO, RIT, CW, etc.

All info about the software and related buttons, modifications, etc. can
be found at

But those buttons will only work if you install the related software, so
you need a PC or help from someone else to install it for you.
