I used a PSU enclosure, and cut out a square in the back with a dremel leaving about 6mm (1/4") around the outside.? I then soldered on a bit of back panel from a dead electric stove to make a smooth mounting surface for the front panel stuff.? Temporary drilling template is taking a little longer than expected to be replaced by the permanent finished front panel decal tho!.? 40m and 80m mod coming next - mock up for filters looks like it will fit OK & just for a giggle I looked at putting a 45W linear in the back (with an external heat sink of course!!? Shielding around the DDS and over the top of the board provides a great place to fit two packs of Li Ion batteries.? I intend to put 2 5-way mini sockets for charging on the front panel, so the packs can be charges independently - charge one, while using the other?? The QRP-Labs LPFs look good, but my fiddling nature is looking to swap the inductor & capacitor locations & create a High pass filter..? this BitX is such a fun platform to fiddle with.? Well, some pictures - in no particular order.? PS please excuse my messy portable ham-cave!

Thank you When I was contemplating how to house my VU2ESE bitx40, I thought to keep the Raduino in a partial shielded enclosure knowing how much RF radiation is emitted by the digital circuits. Another benefit of having the Raduino outside allowed easy access to the transceiver board for testing, modifications etc. First I made the external box, single sided pcb for the edges and double sided for the front panel. Next soldered brass standoffs inside the external box to allow it to be screwed to the power supply case. Position LCD and Raduino controller, cut opening for LCD. Drilled mounting holes for the controls. Don't rush to do it in a day, take your time. Haste makes waste. How I made front panel: Used the program Front Panel Designer. Using colour printer, print front panel layout you created on photo paper. Laminate the layout with laminating pouch. Trim to size. Cut thin aluminium sheet slightly larger than the layout. Use spray hobby glue to attach layout to sheet and trim to size. Carefully cut out the opening for LCD and drill holes for the controls. First rule of home brew: Use what materials you have on hand eg Noel's bit from old stove Second rule: If some thing don't work, start again Noel: You ham cave is neat and well organised compared to mine:-) Nice! Just wondering if you're left-handed? Jack, W8TEE No Jack, not left-handed, my wife is, I blame her;-) Keep building, experimenting, have fun 73 to all Alf vk2yac Noel wrote:
