Volume and tuning pots

College Professor Simon Thompson

Hi everyone

I would like to find a matching pair of pots (size, style) for the volume and tuning control. I have a bucketful of knobs to choose from, so I am not really worried about which particular size of pot, but it would be great if they did match. Has anyone found such a thing?

I used basic knurled shaft 10k pots in place of the ones that come with it. The volume had very little range before getting loud. So I ordered logarithmic audio taper 10k pots and they work like you would want. Both have 1/4" knurled shafts, with 4cm black knobs. The shaft is a bit longer on the linear tuning pot, but that's ok, the knob is deep enough for it to seat all the way down the knurled part of the shaft. I also used a thick lock washer bent together flat, on the inside of the enclosure to pull the pot back a little to take up some of the space between the knob and front.

Here are some links.

Lacking a Radio Shack style of store makes the "see, touch and feel" part of your purchase difficult, unless you have one that is still open near you. We have a nice electronics place here in MA. If you don't have one, I would call either Arrow Electronics, or Newark Electric and ask the sales person for 1- 10k linear taper pot with the 1/4 inch shaft (tuning) and 1- 10k audio taper pot (volume) If you are staying with the volume, on/off switch, be sure to ask for that style. Actually you probably should get the switch mounted volume control anyway, and just not use that feature if you decide to use another style of power switch in the future. Shipping is $8.95 fedex from Arrow. Make a list of other things you might need/want to avoid another shipping charge in the future.

Both are same dimension, same look.

Tayda is really good as a general parts store and ship quite fast.
