Wiring diagram

College Professor Simon Thompson

Hi everyone

Where is the latest and most accurate documentation on wiring up the BitX40? I have found a nice metal box (a defunct Heathkit frequency counter) and I would like to start laying it out, but I don't want to damage the radio by attaching a wire to the incorrect lug of a pot whose orientation is unclearly or ambiguously depicted in a diagram, for example. "Left" and "right" don't mean much when a device can be turned over so that "left" is now "right."

The wiring guide on the HF Signals page does show pictures of an assembled tuning pot and volume pot which should remove any ambiguity.

Easy to figure out which end is CW and CCW. Check the pin out on the board/circuit diagram. I think they use brown for ground -- check your cable set. I am in the process of working up my drilling diagram for the front panel. There is a very nice bezel from Tindie in Florida for around $8 or so. Dimensions on their site, and the display is the standard 16 x 2 -- Google that. Screws/spacers supplied are metric, and not long enough for the bezel. Bezel comes with 2-56 and some nuts. May need some more, and some washers for shims to get the front of the display just above the panel. I am awaiting the bezel for final fitting, though I have the dimensions, so can pretty well go ahead .

In color as well, so that solves the problem. Measure twice, cut once...

So those indicate the shafts of the pots pointing up, or toward the viewer?

Please have a look at these pictures and wiring description in the manual and it should be clear.

I hope this time pictures are visible.

Better. Thank you. I had thought I remembered that someone had commented there were some problems with the assembly diagrams, so I didn¡¯t want to assemble without checking whether the diagrams and pictures were accurate before I broke out the solder.
