Bitx40 signal/audio loss

 

When I first listened to the Bitx40 with the stock VFO, I noticed that as I tuned up the band the audio kept dropping. I had to turn up the audio as I moved up.

I tested the BPF with a signal source, step attenuator and scope. The BPF is pretty much flat.

Is it possible the xtal filter is too narrow?
