New adapter kit from TSW
#radiuno
#ubitx
I just announced on the TSW (Triumvirate Skonk Worx) website, that our TSW consortium has successfully created an adapter that will allow the new PJRC Teensy 4.0 to directly replace the NANO MPU on the TSW Raduino Clone and by the same token, the later factory Raduino's where the NANO is mounted on the rear of the card.?
Our programmer has also successfully ported (with only minor modifications, see the website) the factory's V4.3 and V5.1 software to the Teensy 4.0.? You will still need to be familiar with the factory's documentation for V4.3 and V5.1 (whichever you use) as we only documented our changes in the accompanying manuals for the software. A bare board and also a complete kit of parts for the plug in adapter is being offered for sale on the TSW website for anyone interested.? Kits are now available, see the website for details. Right now the kits are only being offered to US customers as the pricing includes shipping and I still need to determine the bottom line for international shipping to offer them to international customers.? US First Class Mail international, small package costs run anywhere from about $11 to $15 for 5 ounces or less depending on country of delivery and some countries are prohibited. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI too have purchased the Teensy 4, but out of curiosity with 400mhz clock, how if any does it affect any noise products within the ubitx or bitx? I bought mine for similar projects, but was kinda worried about digital noise at that speed. Thanks, Jim On Oct 8, 2019, at 10:42, Jim Sheldon <w0eb@...> wrote:

As a ubitx newbie.. what's the benefit to using the teensy over the nano? Considering the Teensy 4 is mounted upside down on the back of the adapter to keep it in order with the upside down NANO on the current Raduinos, the Audio Adapter probably won't be mountable.?
Besides, I've seen quite a few negative reviews on internal noise, hum, etc caused by poor connections to the updated Teensy Audio Adapter.? Right now, we seem to have gotten lucky with our T4 to NANO adapter and it seems to clear up tuning clicks and a lot of other digital noise that was caused by the NANO.? For the time being, we don't want to take too many chances on messing that up. Not saying there isn't noise associated with the T4-Nano adapter, but in lots of testing prior to the release announcement, and using an open frame, unshielded uBITX version 5 for testing, atmospheric noise from the receiver masked any there might be. Until I got the BFO adjusted, I did hear a few, very faint tuning clicks but once the alignment was finished, I only heard signals received through the antenna.? However, depending on construction techniques used, your mileage may certainly vary. Jim - W0EB |
Hey Jim, I see that the current TSW firmware available for the T4 is essentially the "stock" uBITX firmware.? Is there a plan to port any additional code (primarily, display code) from the Biteensio effort?? I'm very much interested in trying out the T4, but I'm using an I2C display.?
Also, could you point me toward the negative reviews regarding Teensy 4 and the audio adaptor?? I'm looking to get some more specifics on that, understand if it's a design vs. production issue with the shield, etc.? Do you know if that was specifically for the Rev D audio board, or for Rev C's being used in a workaround with the T4? (Also, regarding the upside down mounting, I'd think that wouldn't be an issue, if the T4 and audio shield are both purchased w/o headers, and then I solder on the appropriate headers??? But I still haven't looked at the respective pinouts... Thanks, Rob - KC4UPR |
