Does anyone know of a decent supplier for the BFR93W? Or is it possible for hfsignals to make them available to those who purchased the ¦Ìbitx? Regards Lawrence
|
I am thinking that most v4 and v5 rigs do not need them. It may depend which spur mod you do for an added 45 MHz filter. I am getting around 4 watts on 28 MHz cw with stock transistors and an added LC filter only in transmit path. I don't imagine its a huge difference on receive. I am also thinking that other vhf npn devices could be found in junk.

The main issues are two: 1) buying in small quantities; 2) low shipping rates. For instance, sells very reliable components but requires you buy a total amount of at least 30€. Btw, they have BRF93A, not sure if they are the same thing.

?I had ordered on this seller
?but please see the datasheet.BFR93a? supply is 12V ?Hence we should not try 13.8 , little extra . No regards sarma vu3zmv

The item i get is bfr93a that has upper limit of 12V ?BFR93w as made by Siemens has 15V and is in sot323 package , perhaps close to sot23 we an solder. Please search for it.

Thanks all Funny thing is that when I searched on ebay. bangood etc nothing came up. Only found some on Alibaba but 10 including shipping cost half the price of the ¦Ìbitx. Again tnx all. Lawrence

You should try aliexpress, NOT alibaba.

You can use BFR106, available at Digikey. Same foot print, almist same performane for low signal. Ion VA3NOI

This is an example of the designer making a thoughtful improvement,? and perhaps finding a good deal on them. They may nudge the clean output power up a little, but honestly I added an LC filter at 45 MHz to address spurious on my v4, and I am still happy with its output power. On receive it might reduce noise figure a little. But if you live with neighbors our background manmade noise even on 28 MHz can be higher than the 10 or so dB noise figure of the ubitx.
I don't suggest putting money or time into this mod, unless you live in the desert with few people around.

Which 45Mhz filter have you used? In the end I opted for the Farhan LPF T filter which is now also embedded in ver5. Checking the most difficult spur produced by a 21mhz SSB signal is way down now! I am too very satisfied with the modded old version, but, Curt, if you want to operate SO2R you definitely need a fresh version 5 too ;-)

Iz while I am a decent operator - SO2R is way over my head.? I am using the same LC design as v5.? the inductors were found in a junkbox - they are coilcraft (and not a small footprint) so I imagine them to have a reasonable Q.? I modeled them with a Q=70 -- it provides the rejection I need assuming filter lands reasonably well on frequency.? I need about 10 dB to clean up.? okay here are my stock values for spurs --

I have a relay daughter board and the LC filter installed.? I don't have a spectrum analyzer but we measure them at our club session, I am confident on the lower band harmonics but uncertain on the upper band spurs.?
Now my rig is a bit haunted -- it does not like the 45 MHz bidi messed with on the antenna side.? anything too close to the amplifier messed with 7 MHz CW.? first I tried a xtal filter that our club kitted.? bad.? I put the LC in the v5 position -- bad also.? so it is moved closer to the antenna, only in the transmit path - 40m CW is good again.?
I am happy enough with the uBITX v4.? I figured out why none of the AGC circuits were working - I was putting them in series with the volume control, they need to be in parallel.? (I went to EE school to mess up simple things like this, glad my boss isn't on this list!).?
My theory on v5 was that it would push the spurs around, not necessarily cure them all.? Let's see as more are measured.?

I did try Aliexpress, ebay, but there must have been a glitch because I only got nothing found and i am sure I entered the search word correctly These things happen Thanks all for your help and suggestions. Regards Lawrence?

Hi Curt, if these are the values of an unmodified unit, some bands were clearly out of spec but not terrible. My ver 3 board without the Axicom relays was worse. Coilcrafts are good stuff, I have some tunable but had a too low inductance so I used two small green white toroids (rated for 50-200Mhz) I had spare, it works well for me. The only worry for me was the 12mhz fixed spur which I hadn't addressed directly, but in my case it seems very low almost unnoticeable.

BFR93AWH6327XTSA1TR-ND? Digikey about 12 cents.
Mouser has them at about 37 cents each.
ook it up ans BRF93 (no W) as it gets mroe hits and then make sure it is the right package SOT-23 or 323 as needed.
Very close the BFR106 and many others of that class of device.

Yiu may see tbe item? w succix was made by siemens. I have the datasheet for same, Allison.

If there is sufficient interest, i can post a hundred of BFR93 to some volunteer in the usa who can distribute them domestically.

I would be interested!!!! ? Suggest add any resistors that need changing also. ?And caps. ? Make it a retrofit kit. ?I retire in 10 months, purchase spectrum analyzer in 6 weeks. ?
