Upgrade the software to Allard's version #radiuno #bitx40help #nano

Good morning
I was advised to upgrade to the Allard's version
https://github.com/amunters/bitx40
that solves many problems!
I downloaded the zip and unzipped it then I installed the Arduino/Genuino software
?
Can anyone kindly explain to me step by step the procedure without losing the settings?
?
Please do not use abbreviations in the description because otherwise I can not translate the steps in Italian
THANK YOU

Hi SaMa,

First you must install the PinChangeInterrupt library in your IDE (the
Arduino/Genuino software).

The PinChangeInterrupt library is normally not installed by default. You
have to add it to your IDE by yourself. You only have to install the
library one time, once it is installed it will be kept on your pc.

In your IDE menu, go to 'sketch' => 'include library' => 'manage libraries'.
The Library Manager will be opened.
Wait for some time to collect all library information.
When it is ready: In the search box, enter "PinChangeInterrupt"
The Library Manager will show some libraries.
One of them is named "PinChangeInterrupt by Nico Hood".
Click on this library, and press the "install" button.
It takes only few seconds to install the library.
When installation is finished, press the "close" button.

Then setup the IDE correctly for the Raduino:
under 'tools' => board => Arduino Nano
under 'tools' => processor => ATmega328P
under 'tools' => programmer => AVRISP mkll

Connect a USB cable between the Raduino and the PC. Do not power on the
radio. Power to the Raduino is supplied from your PC via the USB cable.

Go to 'file' => 'open...' and browse to the folder with the raduino files
you downloaded. Find the file named "raduino_v1.27.7.ino" and open it.

The sketch code will be now be shown on your screen.
Go to 'sketch' => 'Upload'
The IDE will first compile the sketch (it will take a minute or two), and
then it will automatically start uploading it to your Raduino (this will
also take a minute or so).

When the compilation/uploading has completed succesfully, the Raduino will
restart and the new sketch version (Raduino v1.27.7) will be displayed
briefly on the LCD.

Finally, disconnect the USB cable, apply power to the radio as usual and
enjoy the improved firmware.

Happy BitX-ing!

Many thanks :)
Done all, now I just have to connect the Raduino and load! :)
?
But doing so overwrite the already loaded software, if I wanted to save a copy of the original sotware in my PC is possible?
?
But the story that they say to save the calibrations and then upload them again because otherwise raduino starts from scratch?
?
Thank you very much :)

If you ever want to restore the original software, you can always download it from and upload it back into your Raduino.

The new software uses a different method for calibration, so you cannot use the original calibration value.
After upgrading to the new software, you must perform frequency recalibration anyway (don't worry too much about this, it's not very difficult, you can use another transceiver or AM broadcast station as a reference. See the instructions that are included with the software).
If you do not perform the recalibration, the frequency may be off by a few 100 Hz or so.

Good luck!

perfect thanks

You're welcome.
Please let me know the result.

As I do I warn you immediately

Uploaded software!
First the frequency was from 7,000 to 7,500 now 7,000 to 7,300
?
But nothing has changed! :(
He receives nothing! Only on some frequencies a bit of QRM
The background noise is left, I do not know if you had seen the video
https://youtu.be/kH5zcSSZQJw
I checked all the solders, all the different frequency coils ...
Nothing! He receives nothing! :(
It seems that the antenna is not connected! With or without it changes nothing!
?

Sergio,

Check Raduino to BITX40 connections.

Raudino RED to BITX BROWN wire
Raduino BROWN to BITX BLACK wire

Thanks Raj
it's the first thing I did! I checked all the connections!
By turning the VFO, the QRM increases on some frequencies but no QSO is heard. But stopping on one of these frequencies, if you remove the antenna the QRM should go to zero but instead it does not change anything! it's as if the antenna is not connected! I checked the antenna line up to the first transistor, passing through the relays and the frequency coils and everything is OK! See the attached diagram! I checked the one marked in yellow!
Thank you
Sergio

Sergio,
Please look at this message (/g/BITX20/message/21621).? Randy K7AGE measured all of the transistor voltages and attached them as a PDF.? Please measure the voltages on your board and compare to the document.? If you find something that is very different, that is probably your issue.

Hope this helps.
