Source of small gauge shielded audio wire for a filter
#ubitx
PeteWK8S
Looking for source of small gauge, shielded but flexible audio cable for internal wiring.?
Also looking for how folks might have added an audio filter like the Hi-Per-Mite filter internally to the uBitx. I tried using a DPDT switch to route the audio from Audio1 connector to the filter and the DPDT switch then switching the filter out in and out to headphones. It's a tight fit and cabling is crowed and awkward. It works but thinking there might be a better way. If you've done let's hear and/or see how you did it. Pete WK8S |

I have a Hi-Per-Mite in my uBitx and it makes a huge difference. ?I'm not switching it, but I've installed the SCAF in other things such as my KX1 (I had a short article about it in QRP Quarterly last issue) have used DPDTs in those. I'm purely cw, so in the uBitx I wired the Hi-Per-Mite between the headphones jack and the speaker. ?If I want to bypass the SCAF, I use earphones. ?Otherwise, I use the speaker. ? 73 Howard K4LXY |
You might check Amazon as well. ?They have multi conductor (from 2 on up) 26 and 28 gauge shielded guitar control cable available in various lengths from 1 meter up. ?I happened to see some there when I was looking for some ribbon cable. Jim - W0EB

Subject: Re: [BITX20] Source of small gauge shielded audio wire for a filter #ubitx Have you tried RG174? It's RF, not audio cable, but is thin, shielded and should work just fine. Finding a small length might be a problem though. |

Ethernet cable is also good. Unwind the bundle of wires in the cable and then roll each on a flat surface with a 2x4. It will "unkink" and leave you with nice small diameter wires. I think this was Chuck Adams' (K7QO) idea. Jack, W8TEE

I get most of my small diam wire by stripping it out of old TV sets or radios. Plenty of good stuff if you take the time to look. 73 Jim N6OTQ |
