12 volt power supply

Hi
I have been very happy with my ubitx v6.1 and i am using a yaesu power supply with 25 amps but i was thinking about a small power supply that would be more portable.
I bought the 3 amp version of this power supply for my tivo roamio and it works great and i saw they have this 5 amp supply. It works with a 2.1 mm plug and center is positive.
I wonder if anyone has any thoughts regarding this power supply ?

thanks

The only thing I would worry about with that power supply is, it is a switch mode supply and they tend to put out a lot of hash on the HF frequencies.?

What about one like this?

Aaron, I think those cheap switchers were designed primarily to produce RF noise, and secondarily to produce power. For a short while¡

That literally made me laugh out loud!

I have used a TDK-Lambda LS75-12 for several years without problems.? It is switch mode but meets EMC standards to Class B, the tougher limits for residential use.? I have not noticed any RF interference from 80 metres to 70MHz (UK 4 metre band).
It is available from Digikey.? I mostly draw a max of 4 amps on trnamit, and on receive the power supply is very much underrun, which should keep it cool and reliable.

I go the simple way.

Batteries all the way. No switching noise.

Hi
I bought the power supply

and it works but

when i use the 25 amp supply which is putting out 14 volts dc the ubitx 6 puts out 12.8 watts cw 80 meters and 5.9 watts cw 20meters.
with this 12 volt 5 amp supply it puts out 9.7 watts on 80 and 4 watts on 20 meters.

Do you think it is the voltage difference or the amperage difference that allows for the higher transmitter output ?
if it is the amps then i might try a 10 amp version but if it is the voltage then i probably need a true ham radio type power supply.

thanks

Hi David,

The lower voltage will produce lower power.?

I can not check the specifications of the 12-volt supply as the link does not work.

Hi
The one i bought is

?

interesting....so i really want a 13.8 volt supply to get the max power output.
so this might work

David,

The supply that you have does produce enough current.? It is a voltage lower than the 13.8 volts supplied by your main rig supply that is reducing the output.

Since purchasing through Amazon, you can try the second power supply to see if it generates too much RF hash (QRM) receiving.? If the interference is high, return it.? I bought a similar supply on eBay, which produced all kinds of noise.? It went into the junk pile as there was no return option.

Thanks.
Thats what i thought....the 12 volt 5 amp did not put any noise on the signal that i could detect so i will try the 14 volt supply and let people know if it works...just wanted a small supply for a small radio to make it more portable. Returns to amazon are easy? so i will buy the new supply and if both need to go back they can go back together !

Hi
I tried the variable voltage 6 amp DC power supply listed above and i think it works great.
My morning net people did not hear any noise on my SSB signal.
Setting the output to 13.8 volts resulted in the same output power as my old big 25 amp supply.
One caution (that is in the instructions) there is a plug in cable that will reverse polarity....it is not an extender...you use the regular cable and add a tip to go the the 2.1 mm tip to keep the?
center positive but if you connect the "extra cable" it will reverse polarity.
Seems like a great little supply for the ubitx 6.1.
Radio is still fun to use tho it will not replace my ICOM.
