zBitx alternative board...

Hello, we don't even know when it will start shipping, and we all want to rewrite the design from scratch.
I'm in, too.
Do you think it would be possible to change the raspberry for another more powerful board? Would it be worth it? Could it be to play with Freedv with more guarantees of success? Would it be compatible with the PI pico's screen management?
Would everything have to be recompiled or would it work directly on another arm chip?
I've seen this board (RADXA) that offers more memory, and more processor speed, and also USB-c connectors.
?

Are we discussing about a change in the digital section of the project?

I feel it's a good?idea.

If any board that adheres to the RPi IO connector can be tried.

I guess the efforts can also be used in the present system.

It is fascinating watching hams solve problems/improve a radio that hasn't even shipped yet, let alone demonstrate problems that need addressing.

A quick search leads me to believe that FreeDV works fine on an RPi 3B+, which is the same processor in the RPi Zero 2 W board, but the Zero 2 W has half the RAM - the question is, does FreeDV require much RAM?

The Radxa is hands down a more performant SBC.
Unfortunately the GPIO arrangement isn’t 1:1 so that may be a challenge without some re-engineering.

Depends on what else is running..

Hello,
?
Unfortunatly the pinout is different

I dont see i2s pins on the pinout. So I will require a different sound device.

I parted with US$178 to order my zBitx in December, almost four months ago, and I am not in favour of a radical redesign. I believe the minimum possible hardware change (as described by the author) should be done to maintain the promised? functionality and the radio should be shipped as soon as possible. I understand that people would like a different radio, perhaps a zBitX 2.0, but I want to take my zBitx to SOTA summits as soon as reasonably possible...

The zBitx has not even been delivered yet... but there is already discussion and grumbling in advance, even though no one has any practical experience with the zBitx. Excuse me... I find that unbearable.
