The DSI screen draws 800x480 pixels on the 7" LCD display. Of course, you can use any higher-resolution external HDMI monitor at the same time, so you can use external applications that require a higher resolution very well.
Imagine that you are using sBitx as a radio, because it works with SBC i.e. Single Computer Board control. And you can use Computer to run external applications that can run on Debian OS. I use a PC monitor with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels at the same time as the DSI and the two fit well next to each other. I manage the radio functions on the DSI monitor, while the external applications on the HDMI monitor, which require a higher resolution screen, because the small one does not fit a lot of data. Feel free to use it according to your idea and you will have a lot of fun with it.

Wonder if anyone has replaced the sbitx screen with a higher resolution alternative and if so what was used?
may have to use the HDMI port perhaps but means the unit would still be totally self contained which is what is required for portable operations ideally

I use JJ's Screen Resizer from his sBITX Toolbox set to medium to give me a larger virtual screen for running WSJT-X.
