So many regrets.... #sBitx #sBITX_v3

Hi BITXers

I have been having fun with my Sbitx - my first QSO from central UK was VK3TZT on 30M (10,500 miles as the RF flies) using just a wire.

I bought the constructed board - which arrived with a little damage to the RTC module which I had to repair.

As a dabbler, I have many Raspberri Pis here, so one of those has been utilised with the fine 64 bit image - all works well.

My regret? I really cant find a way to box this in a satisfactory way (I am no metal worker) and really wonder why I cant buy the "official" case from HF Signals without purchasing the whole kit.

Maybe I just buy a fully assembled unit now I know I'm going to get the use out of it?

Mark,
congrats on the nice DX.
I have a lot of similar experiences.
Yes, when you have to order, you try to get the cheaper version so as not to strain the family budget.
I was the same way, but I managed to change it before completing the order and received a boxed version.
However, I am a 'metal worker', i.e. I like to do different things with metals. But my time is needed for other things now, so I changed it.
Ask the manufacturer via support, they may be able to help you.

Mark - go to a tobacconist's & see if you can get an old wooden cigar box that fits.? Some of them feature some very good woodwork.

Mark, I guess im a dabbler too and a cheapskate.HI HI

I , im my own opinion.,would find some fine sturdy thin wood about 1/2 inch or so and design the box as big as you want, and line it with copper sheeting, or copper circuit board etc,add standoffs to mount the PI anyway you want. so you can tie everything regarding to ground to it. the wooden box with a proper stain will look sharp in ones shack. And it will save you quite a bit of money too.

And having a custom box for Your SBITX, you can design it with room to grow, access panels to service the finals or circuit board, add stuff like a built in ATU, meters, knobs, switches and such. And with a custom cabinet you can install bigger heatsinks ,fans, etc .

just my take of it.
