I'm running JJ's current 64bit version on my v3 and I've been getting more and more random shutdowns lately.? Today seems to almost always shut down during the logging process of FT8, but it doesn't always do that.? I get quite a mess of errors, seen below.? I thought maybe I was running low on memory, but there's still 21Gb of empty space.? Maybe my card is going bad?? Anyone else see these errors???
I didn't get any of these errors while using JTDX for 3-4 hours earlier today.? But the last hour or so of using the built-in FT8, I got 4-5 faults.?? It looks like you are out of memory.? Are there any other software running on the radio? You write that you run the 64-bit OS compiled by JJ on the sBitx v3. If the sBitx v3 is original, without modifications, then the RPi4 has a total of 2GB of memory. So the 64-bit OS also runs at its limit, and you are also running another program that requires more memory. If you want to use this, you have to go back to the 32-bit OS. If you want to stay with 64-bit, you have to replace the RPi with a 4GB or 8GB version. My 64-bit OS runs on a 4GB RPi4 and I use jtdx and cqrlog programs together with sbitx with an external hdmi monitor. You can check which programs are running and how much memory they require with the htop command entered in the terminal. You write that you have 21 GB of space on the sd card. This is not the same as memory space. (if you have such a long error message, put it in an attachment so that it does not take up the useful area of the reader.) That's it. -- Gyula HA3HZ |

Forgot to mention that I have upgraded to an 8Gb pi.? I had chrome open with 2 or maybe 3 tabs, and I run it remotly via VNC, and that was it.? I can run FT8 with JTDX, Grid Tracker, VNC, and Chrome open for hours and hours without an issue, but this only happens

Okay a bit more info today.? This morning I got about 6 QSOs just fine, then it crashed 3 times.? It only happens during an automated step in the FT8 sequence (meaning, it never happens when I push CQ or respond to a CQ).? It's always mid-conversation and not
always during the logging step.? I'm starting to thing that it only happens when I have the log open, which I use to make sure I don't repeat contacts.? I don't think it's related to ram at all, I've currently got 6.13Gb of free ram.

Have you performed an update?
In terminal.. sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade -y then reboot. There may be an issue with Chrome and the app needs to be updated.. Also check for cooling issues. What is the CPU temp rising to? Maybe the finals are getting weak and drawing more power? Hos is your power supply - is it between 13-14 volts? What is the current draw on the power supply during transmit? FWIW - I am still running a 2GB Pi on my sBitx 64bit and it works fine - no crashes at all. It will get sluggish over time especially using VNC and a bunch of apps. The trick I use is to close the sBitx app, then restart the VNC connection to speed it up when things get slow.. What logging app are you using? -JJ |

I ran an update after my last post.? But I haven't made any contacts since as conditions seem to have dropped off.? If anyone is on 20, watch for me! :-) - KF7YDU.? I'm using a Mean-well 150W power supply (seems as quite as using my battery) set to 13.2v, ().?
I'll have to check to see what the power draw is when I get home from work.? I'm hoping it was just something that needed to be updated.
For the most part I use the built-in FT8 and logging.? Sometimes I'll run JTDX and Gridtracker and use thier loggers.? But since I get less power out when using JTDX, I tend to stick with the built-in setup.

开云体育JJ, I downloaded your script and did a chmod +x, but when I run it I get the error "cannot execute: required file not found".? So I thought maybe it will run on its own.? I tried to run FT8, and it crashed on the first contact.? I'm more and
more suspect that it is just not happy to have the log file open whole trying to write to the log.? After the crash I checked and the pi_power.log file has not been created.?
I double checked my power supply and voltage was lower than I thought, and I have bumped it up to 13.8v.? But still getting crashes.??

In general, with the 64bit version is it advisable to install the updates when the icon on the menu bar shows they are available? It looks like there are about 80 available on my system now.

The pictures show my power distribution box which also shows my voltage/current/power.? (Forgot to mention that the current draw may be higher than what others see as this includes my ATU-100 tuner and USB wifi dongle).? I use that to keep track of my battery
power when I'm not at home.? (It also has usb A and usb C high speed for charging other devices when needed).? I have been using a 150W AC/DC power supply which I had set to ~12.6v.? It is now running at 13.6v - and it crashed on my first qso after increasing
voltage.? I can go back to running on a battery to test to see if it has issues there.
Gyula, since you do a lot of FT8, try this:? Run the built-in FT8 but open the built-in log.? Make a few contacts and see if it causes the radio to crash.? It will crash 90% of the time when I have the log open and maybe 5% of the time with the log not open.?
If no one else is seeing this, then it's something unique to my setup which could either be power source, or other software that I've loaded.? The errors that I get seem to be related ot gtk which is the software used to draw the gui, but I suspect that those
are errors after the main code has failed.? The only other error I get is 'Segmentation Fault'.

Are you using this power supply for the sbitx? Is this connected to a mains power supply or battery? Have you tried using the device with a different power supply? Maybe it's the fault of this power supply that is causing your problem. I'm just thinking out loud. -- Gyula HA3HZ |

If I understand correctly, you are telling me to open the LOG file while doing the ft8 connection. I only open the LOG file to see if the logging is actually working and if it has captured the qso. It's not open anyway, because I think it can't log if it's open with another action. I've been using the 64-bit OS with an external hdmi since mid-March, since then there is no logging in sbitx's own LOG. I am currently using an external LOG program (cqrlog 2.5.2), which includes all the connections I made with sbitx from the beginning. -- Gyula HA3HZ |

hmmm.... Actually, you've reminded me of something.? When I export the log to adi and upload to LotW, it complains that one of my entries is ignored due to errors.? I'll have to look at that entry tonight.

Well, unexpected follow up....? I was funning FT8 on 40m last night.? I had JTDX and gridtracker running, but they weren't controlling the radio (mode was set to FT8, not Digital).? So I was watching the maps to get squares that I need.? But then I wasn't getting
anyone back at all.? My brother who lives about 20miles away contacted me, and it logged, but halfway through I realized that there was 0W output displayed on the screen.? So I went out to the garage and watched it show that the output is 0, the tuner said
something like .1w.? It was only drawing about 1amp current from the power supply on TX.? So it appears I've cooked the finals somehow.? This morning I tested the sense diodes (while still in the pcb, do I need to pull them out first?) and they showed ~.3v
forward, and ~1v in reverse.? How do I test the mosfets?
I did run git stash/pull and ./update, but that didn't change anything.?
It looks like it's modulating, on FT8 and 2-Tone testing, but no power is getting out.?

开云体育Good info JJ, that's exactly what I needed. While the mosfets where in the board it looked like there was a short between pins, but it kinda drained like a capacitor. So I pulled one off the board and saw ~150ohm between drain and gate and 2Mohm
between source and gate.? Replaced both of them being careful to keep the tiny diode on the wire so I could maintain polarity.? Everything is back to the way it was!??
No idea what killed them, swr is never higher than 1.5 except for the brief moment when the tuner kicks in when switching bands.? Guess I better buy another set or two of spares!?

You are right that the moment when the tuner tunes and the swr is high, that's when the final stage kills you. It's no coincidence that I always say to use a current-limiting power supply and, if possible, an antenna that does not require an antenna tuner.? This is how the repair remains in the event of an error.
