3D printed folding sBITX tilt legs
#sBitx

Here is a design for a folding tilt stand for portable operations. Tilts back 30 degrees, like my clip on design. When not in use the legs fold flat to the back of the sBITX case and the assembly does not extend beyond the heat sink, so size is not increased. |

Nice job, Bob. What size were your screw holes on the case back? I checked mine some time ago, and I think they were M3. One didn't thread easily, though, and I didn't want to take the chance of stripping it out at the time. If they're all the same (which I assume they are), I'll open the case up, remove the board & re-tap it.
Thanks, Mike |
Bob,
Perfect!? Do you have the dimensions on the location (x,y) of those screw holes? I will just make them an option on my 3d printed case and reference your work. 73 Mark -- AJ6CU/7 KD8CEC 2.0, Nextion Screens,? and open source uBITX Raduino boards for Arduino IOT, BLE, RP2040, Teensy 4.0, and Raspberry Pi Pico https://github.com/aj6cu |
Bob,
That would be good if you have a chance.? Trying to place the holes once. I never seem to measure them exactly and find myself always printing, move a mm, print again, move a mm, repeat... Just printed it, nice design!? I assume the rounded part of the legs face outside (away from the sBitx) ? 73 Mark -- AJ6CU/7 KD8CEC 2.0, Nextion Screens,? and open source uBITX Raduino boards for Arduino IOT, BLE, RP2040, Teensy 4.0, and Raspberry Pi Pico https://github.com/aj6cu |

?I meant the rounded part to face in and the flat back to contact the leg angle stop. Thanks for the catch. I'll improve the directions. Attached is a drawing of hole locations. I know what you mean about iterative measurement. I made a quick, 1 mm thick plate with holes to check these. -- 73 ??? Bob? KD8CGH |
Bob,
I think I got it. Imported your backbrace stl into tinkercad and used the grid there to get it to the mm. Left to right is 196mm and the "middle" hole is 42mm from left.?? Let me know if you come up with something else. 73 Mark -- AJ6CU/7 KD8CEC 2.0, Nextion Screens,? and open source uBITX Raduino boards for Arduino IOT, BLE, RP2040, Teensy 4.0, and Raspberry Pi Pico https://github.com/aj6cu |

? Yes, those are the dimensions I used for the back of the tilt mount. They are explicitly declared in the OpenSCAD source file. ? As mentioned, I also checked the others in the drawing by printing a thin template and laying it on the back of the sBITX to check hole alignment. -- 73 ??? Bob? KD8CGH |
开云体育I don't have access to a 3d printer.? I would be willing to reimburse somebody to make me one of these folding supports.? I would like the person to include the screws - a local hardware supplier has them, but $25.00 minimum order for 5 screws!!!! Thanks Gerry Sherman Sent by the Windows 11 Thunderbird

Thanks Bob!? I have been using any number of things to tilt my sBitx and should have thought of this.? I fired up a 3D printer after lunch and voila!? Fits like a glove and just what I needed. |

? I can print one for you if you would like. The biggest expense might be shipping. I'm in NE Ohio. ? BTW - big box hardware stores like Lowe's and Menards carry the screws. The 12mm M4 screws are $1.29 for a three pack at Menards. ? BTW2 - many public libraries have printers for use for the cost of the filament. There are also many Maker Spaces around that have printers. Mike ?? Glad you found it useful. -- 73 ??? Bob? KD8CGH |
Amazon has stainless metric screw assortments for under $10.?

a long screw. use the smallest length to do the job! Raj On 24/01/2024 9:11 AM, Mark Hatch wrote:

It would be best to have an adjustable?tilt. I use the on-screen keyboard all the time and it is very kludgy to type on it unless the incline is more than 45 degrees. - f On Wed, Jan 24, 2024 at 9:23?AM Raj vu2zap <rajendrakumargg@...> wrote: Watch out for the length, you dont want to damage the internals or short |

While I plan on eventually using a printed tilt stand, I'm currently using a folding laptop stand. It's actually pretty nice, with many tilt adjustment points. No matter how it's positioned, the sBitx heat sink causes the radio to sit a bit lop-sided in it, but it's still stable and works well.
I bought mine locally (at a grocery store, of all places), but ebay & other sites have the same: |

? For such an large change I don't think just a leg angle change would work. I think you would have to shorten the legs quite a bit. I think you would need a design for that angle. ? To get a lot of angle adjustment I think you would have to leave the compact, portable, case attached design and go to something that looks more like my first desktop design. -- 73 ??? Bob? KD8CGH |
