sBITX Telnet Manager Companion App #sBitx #app

 

I created a simple companion app for the sBITX platform. Feel free to try it or make modifications as needed.
 

I tried it and it works great. Thanks for your work.

I made some changes to the app. Added the digital mode and added functionality for additional controls.
 

JJ - this is a really cool app - thanks for creating and sharing!

I set the variable self.telnet_host to "sbitx.local" so that I could telnet into the sbitx from another computer where I do most of my software hacking.

It has me thinking about additional features like memory management, scanning, etc.

Thanks Steve. I changed the code to sbitx.local in the repository per your suggestion. I initially created this app so I could store and recall frequency memories which it does accomplish. I like the idea of adding scanning functionality as well. I will continue to enhance the app over time and you are free to modify and share changes as needed. I am not a programmer by trade - just doing this as a hobby.

I’ve never used telnet before. I have it installed - do I use this on the SBITX box or remotely?
Not sure I know how to use this and what it does. I assume it puts the radio in a certain operating mode?

You can use the companion app on the sBitx natively and remotely on another computer (Linux, Windows, Mac) which has Python installed.

You can use the "Open Telnet" command and it will work. Just make sure the sBitx app is running first.

I added a method for scanning the stored frequencies in the list. Is this what you are looking for or do you want to enter a specific frequency range and have the sBitx scan those from start to end?

I think a range scan would be good. An?operator can enter his/her authorized portion of a band and scan for QSOs.?

I can give it a try. That is a little more difficult to achieve over telnet since the interface is somewhat slow. I updated the repository with the scan function as it is implemented for now.

My new request - grab the text that's sent across in CW and FT8 modes, and display it in a window - with adjustable font sizes if possible,

If you can do that - the next request would be some simple controls to call the defined macros for making CW and FT8 QSOs,

(You can probably guess where I'm going here.....?? You would definitely make Owen B, myself, and a bunch of others with older eyes very happy!)

I would especially appreciate it if the LOG>>> button worked in all cases.
In FT8 mode, it sometimes does not work.
I tried it, in this case there is no operation in any mode.
In contrast, the WIPE button always works.
Would it be possible to make the LOG>>> button so that it also works at any time?

JJ - I have to tell you how easy it was to set up your app to scan the frequencies 7074, 14074, 21074, and 28074, (FT8 frequencies) then set the scan interval to 60 seconds, and start the scan at the top of the minute.

This thing is now scanning through those 4 FT8 frequencies and decoding the FT8 activity - and in perfect synchronization with the FT8 windows.

Very, Very Cool!!

So now I see my next project - time to make that IF gain setting AUTOMATIC,

Hello All.

Thank you for your feedback, suggestions, and testing/using the app.

Here are some things that I'd like to fix or add as time permits:
  • Add interaction with the QSO Logger (researching)
  • Add console AKA message screen for messages received in digital modes (testing)
  • Add options for increasing font size (testing)
  • Rework button placement for screen resize (researching)
  • Document telnet functions (researching)

I was able to load macros in the web folder, but I haven't figured out a way to use the macros via telnet. Does anyone have ideas on how to run F1, F2, F3, etc via telnet? If so, then I can incorporate this functionality in the app.
