sBitx receiver calibration
How do I adjust and fault find the receiving side of the radio? I want to check that all parts are working properly. What does RV2 do and what is the correct adjustment for it. ? The reason I ask this is that there are many fixed birdies within the waterfall on all bands, two in particular one at fc+4500Hz and one at fc+11000Hz. I suspect that either one of the mixers is not operating properly or the 40 MHz xtal filter. Any help would be much appreciated.? -73s Dave? ? |
Dave,? These static birdies are often due to power supplies that show up inside the IF pass band. Try a different power source or a battery. Which version of hardware do you have? On Tue, Dec 19, 2023, 4:35 PM <davidmanning592@...> wrote:

Hello Ashhar, I am using a 3S lipo battery and have a 50 ohm dummy load attached to the antenna port.? I have tried different rp3 and rp4's as I thought it might be the cause.?
The receiver also seems to lack sensitivity too, this leads me to the mixer or 40MHz xtal filter but this is hard for me to diagnose here.? Your help is much appreciated.? -Dave |
The RV2's setting is not critical, it is just set to the middle and it

stays working. Do you have sufficient output? As this is a bidirectional transceiver, it may be significant observation. I have documented the v3 output on - f On Tue, Dec 19, 2023 at 5:18?PM <davidmanning592@...> wrote:

Hello Ashhar,?
I have checked the voltage regulator and inspected all the inductors to make sure they have not been damaged in transit to me and all seems ok. I have check the TX power on CW for 80m at 12.5V supply it was producing 22W and on 10M it was producing 17W. At this point i am lost as to where to look now. ?? |
Hi Dave,
I do not have a V2 or V3 (yet); however, I have had similar issues with my DE.? There are two possible issues and solutions that worked for me: 1 - The Wolfson codec could not sync with the Raspberry Pi 4 (RPi4).? The solution for this issue was to turn off the sbitx, following the proper shutdown of an RPi system.? Remove power, leave the switch on, and short the power input to the sbitx for up to 30 seconds (most of the time, 10 seconds worked).?? 2 - The sbitx microSD card was corrupted (many possible causes, but the most frequent was having to shut down quickly when having radio issues).? The only way I could solve this was to install a new image on the microSD card and start over. The proper way to shut down the sbitx is first to stop the sbitx program, then open the applications menu, select Logout, then select Shutdow, and then wait 10 seconds for the RPi to shut down.? The last step is to turn off the power. There is a Wiki topic on this group that covers how to burn a new microSD card: /g/BITX20/wiki#sBITX-Topics I assume that a V3 download will be available when the V3s ship. 73 Evan AC9TU |
Thanks Evan,
Your reply is very informative with respect to the problems caused by incorrect shutting down of the Raspberry pi, I have added a shutdown shortcut to the desktop to help with this. when the codec fails to sync is usually because it is in use by another instance of the sBitx app that will be minimized into the background, I did have this with the V2 software but haven't seen it with the V3 software.?? Unfortunately for me neither if these issue is the cause of my problem as the codec and Pi are working just fine, I think my problem is somewhere in the mixer section of the RX. 73 Dave? ?? |
