IW2NDH Panadapter Kit for uBitx

I just received the Panadapter kit to add to my uBitx V6 radio. Along with the Panadapter I also got the I-F Buffer which is needed to connect the Panadapter to the uBitx. The installation is simple, just 6 solder connections to connect the I-F Buffer to the radio, then a coax with SMA connectors (which come with the I-F Buffer) to connect it to the Panadapter. I used a 3D printed case from files downloaded from the website.

This makes a great addition to the uBitx radio. It¡¯s nice to see other activity on the band and tune right to it. The span is selectable from 16 KHz to 192KHz

Luca (IW2NDH) has a U.S. rep so shipping is quick. Mine arrived in approx 4 days via USPS.

Would LOVE to have a copy of your 3D files for those cases!!!? NICE JOB!!!!!? LOVE the tuning knob and your bezel

Beautiful work, Sam!? Really nice!

Sam,

Perhaps I misssed it, but didn't see any pricing on the website. Out of curiosity, can you share in round numbers what this costs? So this hooks into the IF and does not need a RF switch like the MFJ 1708? (and clones).

Mark,

The Panadapter Board with the I-F Buffer Board was $90.00 plus $7.00 Shipping. You also need the ILI9341 SPI Display which you need to purchase from Amazon, Ali Express, or other supplier $11.00 to $15.00 depending on supplier. The display price was for the 3.2" display. The I-F Buffer Board which measures 1.18" x .58" (30mm x 15mm) excluding the Female SMA connector is mounted inside the radio with 3 wires. Then a coax cable connects the I-F Buffer to the Panadapter. It's that simple no RF Switch or anything else. Here is the connections to the uBitx. Hope this helps.

Sam,

thanks! ?That is very reasonable. You can¡¯t get a reasonable RF switch for less than $50. One more question, ?so this includes a processor for the display? I had assumed that there was a raspberry pi somewhere but not likely at that price point¡

Mark,

Yes the Panadapter Board has the processor for the display on it.

Sam,
Thanks for sharing this with us. ?One additional question. ?The website just indicates the availability of the kit but not what is required to assemble it. ?Are the major compost pre soldered or is it up to the kit builder to solder everything? ?Thanks

Dave, KA4DKU

Hello Everybody,
Kit comes as in the picture above, all SMD soldered and ready to work.

Only need to add :

an ILI9341 SPI Display + a Box.

In the website you find the manual

and 3D files to print the box.

I would add some info:
Panadapter is just like an SDR receiver made with:
Quadrature digital mixer + SI5351 + Codec 16 bit/192 KHz and can go up to 150 MHz.
It is present an audio stereo output with I/Q signals, so you can connect your PC (sound card input) and use one of SDR programs available to have a receiver.
Because the mixer has a very high IMD , you can use the panadapter directly connected to the antenna and PC, without the radio.

Have fun, Luca IW2NDH

Hi, Luca!
Is is possible to route the audio output to the PC via the USB connector rather than the audio jack?? Or is the audio jack the only output method for SDR?? Thanks!

Answer from Luca via direct email:
?
Hello Tom,
Audio jack is the only way because?
USB is used as serial terminal to control the frequency.
