Re: Fried torroids
I suspect the popular thinking is that "if it is good at 1 GHz, then it should be good at 10 MHz", or something like that. What we really want to know is whether the item is a resistor or insulator

Re: Fried torroids
This "put it in the microwave to test for RF properties" comes up in amateur radio publications now and then. I have doubts that this method gives meaningfull results. After all you are testing at

Fried torroids
Well just thought I had to add my own contribution on this topic... In my BITX20 I have used 1/2 inch black plastic tapwashers from the local hardware store. I also had purchased a 3-pack of "delta"

Re: Fried torroids
we are all glad that hans survived. he who gets away lives to homebrew another day. there are two things that we are interested in about the tap washers. the Q (unloaded) and thermal stability. As i

Re: Constructing BITX20
John I too had questions about the RF capability of 'tap washers", so I purchased and tested several varieties that seem readily available here in the US. I found that the semi-clear nylon ones did

Re: Ferrite cores (and a bit of a rant)
You should take a look at Amidon's (or other vendor's) specifications for cores. For a given composition, induction can be estimated from the specs and then confirmed from the actual wound inductor.
