Re: Bitx Drift
The cliche that "heat rises" refers only to heated air. Heat in solid
materials moves in any direction that is lower in temperature. Heat in
radiant form (long and shortwave IR) moves in whatever

external vfos for HF rigs..at that time
I was thinking the same thing. Hams are kinda spoiled with stability right out of the box now days. And if it's not stable enough for 129.00 you can add

Heat rises, the stuff that gets hot are already on the top of the board.

Re: Bitx Drift
I'm really not sure.
Could be as simple as a bad solder connection in the original? L4 had been pushed around quite a bit during shipping it was 90 degrees twisted.

80m band conversion
Hello all, I have a Bitx 20 on the way. It is the through-hole version.
I intend to use a DDS for the VFO.
If I want to eventually modify it for 80m the two things to change are:

good news / Bad news
I have some good news and some bad news regarding my work on the Bitx 40v3.
First, the good news. I replaced the four caps that determine the
frequency on the VFO, these are c91, c92, c94, c95 with

Re: Bitx Drift
Thanks for sharing! Can you explain how soldering L4 under the board instead above would help the drift? As for tuning easier, I built a 20:1 gear reduction drive, but you can also get 10 turn pots

Re: Digital Dial/Frequency Counter
I suspect that some do and some don't.
Try measuring your IF and subtracting the VFO. You will have to calibrate it against a known signal, but it should work. The problem is in a negative result ---

Re: Digital Dial/Frequency Counter
Bill, I have several of the Sanjian counters too, and I'm quite happy with them in general. But as others have reported, they do not work with a subtractive offset. The option is there; it simply

Bitx Drift
When I received the BitX( #33) the drift was pretty bad so I installed a DDS, UNO and a NT7S Si5351 board which works like a champ.

Jerry, Where do you connect up the QRPguys counter on the Bitx40 or do you adjust something on the counter to compensate for the offset?? I've built both versions of the counter, so I must be hooking
