Re: Knob for that tiny volume pot?

I am actually considering 3d printig the knob for mine, since it is a 4mm shaft with a flat. I already have STL files for knobs for 6mm shafts, so I SHOULD be able to shrink it 2mm in the X and Y dimensions (easy to do in Cura), and finagle it from there until it fits properly.

Stopping IDE sometimes also helps.

Compiling the sketch is not giving issues?

Think the Nano comes with these usb devices/drivers.

Did you try the initial or other programmer options in the IDE?
Seems like USB device is still working as it knows its type at Windows level.

Just did a driver update and now the device manager shows USB serial CH340 (COM5?).

The problems still exists: Could not find USB device.

Re: Unused wires

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi Ron,

obviously I don't know what happened with the 'broken' raduino's but I know that when earthing the brown wire doesn't work the temptation is to try connecting it to the positive voltage instead and as this is probably 12 volts it's likely to destroy the Raduino. But as I say I don't know if that happened in these cases. Having played a lot with Arduino's I can say that eathing one of those input pins almost certainly can't damage the arduino nano in the Raduino, however often you do it so it's really hard to say what could have happened. We'll probably never know for sure.

I take it your SI5351 is probably controlled by an Arduino I have also built a couple of these with encoders and they work really well. Interestingly the Raduino doesn't use an encoder but uses an analogue voltage from a 10K pot between plus and earth to set the frequency.

yes, there is always something new to learn about the bitx and I've learned a lot from the group.

I grounded the brown wire but it did nothing (though no damage).
Grounding the red wire as recommended in this group set the calibration mode and calibration worked perfectly for me.
As these wired are inputs grounding any of them is not likely to cause any damage.

BROWN is definitely in doubt to be used for calibration. Please read this forum on calibration issues.

Assuming all cabling is identical it seems the RED one has to be GROUNDED in order to activate calibration.

And until absolutely clear I would suggest live with the small offset until more information comes available on the cause of these issues.

Re: New 10 turn pot for $10.00

Using a 10 turn pot with a Raduino is going to be frustrating, you will have to turn to the end of the band to shift the band frequency up or down.? I have not tried a 10 turn pot with the Raduino so I could be wrong.?

The pot supplied in the kit works well with a small knob on it, you can still fine tune the frequency step by step, and you can easily move to the ends of the turn to shift the band frequency.

If you are using the analog VFO, then a 10 turn pot is very useful.

adding VK3YE AGC to BITX40

I would like to add the audio AGC circuit from Peter VK3YE to my BITX40 (see ) but am wondering about exactly how to integrate it into the current version of the SMD BITX40v3. On Peter's schematic, I assume that the amp block shown at the "receiver audio in" is actually Q16. The 3.3K resistor in Peter's circuit doesn't exist in the BITX40 and I assume that it would have to be added between C115 and the high side of the volume control. The input to Peter's circuit would then come from the C115 end of the 3.3K resistor and the LDR would be placed across the volume control. The easy way to install the 3.3K resistor would be to lift the red wire from the volume control and install the resistor between the wire and volume control terminal.

Am I correct in my "assumptions" or did I miss something? His LDR version of an audio AGC looks like it really works well and would make a good addition to the BITX40.?? 73, AL - VE3RRD

Got my old programer connected to the Nano, but get no Com port shown up. Have to use AVRDude, but hate to mess around with commandline paramaters. Have to look if I can find some GUI for it. Would prefere to just use the arduino ide though.

Re: Unused wires

Yes, the inductor is for L4 in the analog VFO if you decide to do without the Raduino for a VFO, must be out if you do use the Raduino.

No, the cap is for use across the tuning pot to avoid a bit of chatter there.?

The "sync" error message can occur for a whole bunch of reasons. As you can see, avrdude tried 10 times looking for a response and not getting it, after which it gives up. I assume you had the USB cable set, since you said the COM port was configured correctly. The other possibility is the drivers is not correct. Did you run the proper install program in the drivers subdirectory?

I have another option for upload available as I still have a USBasp programmer as leftover from my times where I programmed flightcontorllers and ESCs for my multicopters.
That programmer has also a 6pin connector that fits to the 6 pins on the oposite side of the USB adapter on the nano.
I just removed the plastic around the pins to get them free, but they are cut and I think they are a bit to short now. Will try to get them a bit longer by heating up the solder and pulling them out a bit. Maybe I can get that connected via this programmer.

Ups, sorry for beeing that stupid. I meassured just the voltage that was on A7 with having the pot at a random position. Of course it is changing. It goes from 0 when fully to counterclockwise up to 5.08 when fully clockwise.
The regulator gets slightly warm, but not realy hot.
When I now turn it on, the first line of the LCD shows 16 black blocks and the second line is empty. On the nano a green and a red led are lit, but I cannot see which one, because it is covered by the LCD.
I tried to upload a sketch, without having anything else connected to the nano. I think that should work?
Just to be sure, what settings do I have to use within the Arduino software?
I have the following settings:
board = Arduino Nano
processor = artmega328
programmer = AVRISPmkll

I am not sure about the progammer setting, but tried every single one and nothing worked.

Or should I try to upload when everything is connected and under power?
