Otherwise unobtainable plastic 2n2222A's available for pennies on ebay? In this particular case, I'm not so sure about the first part in "Trust, but verify".? But certainly possible, the recipe has been out there for 50 years. Ebay might be worth a shot if you want a bunch. For small quantities on prototypes, I'd just give Mouser their $2 for item?610-2N2222A If you really want a bunch, then Mouser item?583-2N2222A from Rectron is $0.21 each at quantity 10000. All 2n2222A's on Mouser have metal cans, which should dissipate more than anything plastic. Especially if you put some sort of heatsink on them. Or give them a liquid nitrogen bath. There are parts that are better than the 2n2222A's, especially if interested in operating above 20m. Search for 2n5109 in this forum for discussion of that and other parts. Maybe also search for BS170 too, Mouser price of $0.44 for one, $0.12 each for 100.? Jerry ? On Thu, Sep 13, 2018 at 01:18 PM, Kees T wrote:

They still sell the TO-18 metal can versions at quite high prices because the military still needs them to repair "stuff". Re: Have to adjust master calibration on power up - does not save
Ion,
Hey guys, I am an idiot.? My BFO freq. was way off.? The only way I found out was running Ubitx manager to see the saved setting. There was incorrect data entered at one time or another.? Anyway, I got in some good practice with my small torch removing and installing that Arduino. I have now have it set to 119965 and waiting for band conditions to improve.? I tried listening in on another radio but the distance between the 2 is too short. Thanks for all your help. ? Bob |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAllard, in addition the "high side" injection must be used and chosen, because fin = fLO - Fif; e.g. fin = 3.5 MHz Fif = 12 MHz then fLO = 15.5 MHz. The "low side injection" as used in the BITX40 does not work (fin = 7 MHz, flo = 5 MHz then fif = 12 MHz). Henning Weddig DK5LV Am 13.09.2018 um 00:27 schrieb Allard

Hi,

I have posted elsewhere about our use of ~50 ohms and 'tuners' at the transmitter to show the radio said ~50 ohms. Besides the feedline loss, which may or may not be tolerable, modern radios have broadband finals with fixed (not tunable) output filters. Those filters are designed for somewhere around about 50 ohms. If we show them something dramatically different their performance diminishes by some unspecified amount. It's good to show the radio 50 ohms resistive. Do the best we can with the rest of the system :) If we place the tuner AT the antenna and use it to match whatever the antenna happens to be (maybe 275R -j6 or 2500R -80j) then our radio AND our coax "see" 50 ohms. Maybe a practical limit for SWR variation (at the radio) is 1.5 or 2. I have sometimes operated solid state finals into as much as 3 to 1 SWR without apparent negative consequences. But not very many times:) L-networks do a fabulous job. The unseen consequences may have been some extra nasties radiated. In the old days we had Pi and Pi-L output networks to tune our tube transmitters. Newbies are probably unfamiliar. Those could match quite a lot of 'crap' beyond the antenna connector on the back. I wonder how often we operated with reduced filtering effectiveness using those - mistuned. 73, Bill KU8H On 09/13/2018 01:16 PM, Warren Allgyer wrote:

Lawrence,
Your advice is spot on. One clarification.... and it can be important. 68 ft for 1.0 dB loss at 28 MHz is absolutely correct....... IF, the antenna is a perfect 1:1 match. At 2:1 VSWR you only get 51 ft per dB and at 3:1 VSWR it drops to 42 feet. That is why it is false economy to use a tuner on the rig end of a coax fed antenna. WA8TOD |

Re: uBitx Antenna

Coax loss can be low if the antenna shows little swr. Loss increase a lot when you combine the SWR with the loss of the cable. Low loss line like the balanced line make negligible the losses of an antenna with higher SWR. Ok you may reword a little better than I.
