I have verion 3 of the uBITX and find that very accurate setting of the vfo via the menu is required. You may find you have to adjust it a bit, mine is set at 11.9972 I also have had no audio issues

It picks up TX signal just like L5. L1 is the worst. If you put uBitx on the analyzer and bring your finger near L1 you will see huge comb like oscillations. SMD removes that. Probably due to Hi Q of
