When I see a 50 ohm BNC receptacle that is unreliable its likely because someone plugged in a 75 ohm into it and sometime verse visa. They have different plastic sizing and the center pin and socket

Some may not be aware that if you remove the locking ring from a BNC male connector, it will plug into an N connector. Shops sometimes make quick-connect jumpers this way.
