The only external circuitry I used was an USB soundcard besides my CAT cable. Main reason for that is that my audio jack was combined spkr/mic. Wsjt-x advises to have the input volume at about 30%.

You can use the same jack, but the wiring to the paddle has to have two resistors - a 2.2K for the dots and a 10K for the dashes (or somewhere in that neighborhood).? Whether you use a key or paddle
