I think you have it backwards.? No strong adjacent channel signals should be present after the 12mhz filter. However, they are present prior to the filter.

If you don't detect AGC till after the 12Mhz filter then you risk having strong adjacent-channel signals controlling the AGC rather than the signal you are interested in. tim ab0wr "K9HZ"
