Re: Help! I think I may have just ruined my 9 year old's Chanukah
On websdr, there is a station about 20-30 miles away. I usually load up websdr and listen to myself on that station. They're having a little problem with 40 now I think, but I can look for another in

Re: Help! I think I may have just ruined my 9 year old's Chanukah
Nail varnish? when dry is an insulator as is modelling dope and various other substances. The new suggestion of a thin layer of epoxy will work equally well once the "shorted turns" are separated.

Re: Help! I think I may have just ruined my 9 year old's Chanukah
What is the purpose of the nail varnish? The reason I may have to rewrap....I'll have to take it out of the case to make sure, but it looks like there may be several strands wrapped on top of each

Re: Help! I think I may have just ruined my 9 year old's Chanukah
?Woohoo!!!! Real detective work going on!!! I've never done this, but if you can separate them so that they cease to short, you could put a drop of epoxy 5-minute glue there, and it would perfectly

Hey, speaking of Dummies.? Here is one I came up with. Its 4 -? 3W resistors.? Has RF tap (0602 Component) either for a resistor or Cap. Shky diode and cap.? Place for LED (0805).? 3 Pin Molex

how to coil your own cables
two disclaimers before this post 1) This may be common knowledge but it is new to me. 2) I am only describing what worked for me.? If you ruin your cables, your oven, your house or your marriage

Re: Help! I think I may have just ruined my 9 year old's Chanukah
Don`t go to all the hasle of rewinding the coil, carfully separate the turns (usually spaced anyway) and paint on some clear nail varnish or similar and let it dry, then re-insert in the board. Dave

Re: Help! I think I may have just ruined my 9 year old's Chanukah
I hadn't thought about that. We do it on 2 meters though ha It's looking like the side of the toroid is grounded together at the bandpass. I'll have to take it out of the case to get a better look. I
