Re: Working Daylight receiver

Dear Ashhar,
I ordered the 4.9152MHz Crystals to move my 5MHz Crystal filter out from under WWV's 5MHz transmitter.?? My 5MHz input antenna trap is working very well in the mean time.? It will take a month or so to get the crystals. I noticed in the picture of your DAYLIGHT ANALOG TRANSCEIVER that you used a combination of dead bug and air building technique.?? I am using my DAYLIGHT ANALOG radio as a teaching tool in a builders group at our local Amateur Radio club and I chose the Manhattan modular style of building so the group could build each module and study it's electronic processes as well as build the circuit.? I have been working ahead of them as they are just finishing up the PTO this week.? I do expect there to be some differences in performance because of my build method but the overall objective will be a working 7MHz SSB Transceiver.? Here is a picture of the Receiver section build that I did as a guide for the others in the group
.

I am receiving signals on it in the Evening and as I work on improvements to my build the sensitivity is coming up and more stations are heard.?? There may be some of the more experienced builders in my group branch out to your and Barry's method of construction as time goes on.? This will be the personal decision of the build and will give the group a multiple construction view of the same design.?? In my view this is a very excellent way to see how this project develops for both new and experienced builders.?
Take care and have fun.

No worries; I appreciate the testing and feedback.

I consider the 0 watts setting a quick temporary solution. ?I suspect a better solution would be a way to disable break-in keying so as to not actually flip over to transmit. ?I¡¯ll consider that for my to do list. ?Having delved into the GUI code and understanding it pretty well, I¡¯m now into the modem and some of the SDR code, trying to understand the CW functionality and improve it.

Re: My new sBitx is RF deaf #sBitx

Deleting the settings file did not seem to fix it..? It did switch something around though, because when I launched the sBitx app, there was a little more white noise coming out of the speaker, but it still doesn't hear any signals on any band, even nearby ones. The waterfall is blank.

Re: #sBitx Apparent short following unintended TX #sBitx

In all probability, one of the PA transistors is blown. Cut out the drain leads of the PA transistore and check if the short goes away.

I received the kit last week and had it connect to my LDG AT-100 Pro II tuner. It was tuned for 80m. I had switched down to 40m and was listening LSB for a couple of hours. The mic was not connected, and, not finding how to set my call sign and grid within 10 minutes of searching, I typed "/callsign" on the cmd line and pressed <Enter>. At that point, I'm guessing the unit tried to transmit "/callsign" and immediately turned off. My power supply instantly went into "protect" mode as it did in ensuing attempts to power on the sBitx.?

Upon inspection of the mainboard, I found no visible indicator of where the short might be. Nothing appears blown or burned. The power cable has been checked and is fine. I have taken several detailed pics.

I am looking for a starting point for rectifying this problem. Does anyone have an idea of where my initial focus should be?

Try deleting your settings file:

rm /home/pi/sbitx/data/user_settings.ini

I¡¯ve seen this fix unexplained issues like what you¡¯re experiencing, on my unit.

Let me know if this fixes it. ?I¡¯ve had it on my to do list to investigate this¡.

Hi Pete,

I am working on some CW performance issues and I think I left some CW code unfinished, and that¡¯s causing the problem. ?I¡¯m planning to do a git push today with improvements to CW which should fix what you¡¯re experiencing.

Right now I¡¯m grappling with an unrelated bug where keyboard CW entry is dropping the first CW element. ?For example, a V comes out as a U.

Re: PTO without 3D printer

Years of building radiosn with VFOs/PTOs there are tricks.

The big one is having a stock of N750 caps in the 1-47pf range.
The N750 means negative 750ppm change for degree C.? They
are the fix for VFOs that drift down with temperature.? The amount
of N750 cap is experimental too much and it drifts up, too little
and it drifts down.

There are only two types of caps I will use for stable VFO, Silver mica,
Polystyrene,? some quality COG types are ok.? Generally ceramic unless
class 1 are drifty and some have serious change with temperature and
applied voltages.

As to PTOs the in-out screw woks well but not from the front panel.
The solution is mount the PTO and screw assembly add a pin to the
end of the screw and slide that into a slotted tube that can rotate but
no move back and forth.? I use a 1/4" (.25" ~5.56mm) tube and the
screw is typically 8/32 brass of I thread some aluminum rod.? FYI since
the slotted tube is fixed but rotates its easy to add a linear pointer
style dial (pointer, track to ride on and dial cord with spring for tension).

farhan,? the youtube video is from Bill ny9h ....

the set was factory built , so I ""assume"" bias is set ok.

Mark, just replaced his finals and was doing bias on his rig... and this AM? he lost another output. He is using an end fed.

?I , while recording was using a nice Walters 1kw load with watt meter... listening on a k4.recording to youube.

Later I'll get my nice pwr supply to check quiesient current and key down... 1 watt ? ...15 w? 40?? watts/ to observe bias currents.?

Am i right???? receive current plus 200 +200ma for xmit ?
