Re: Nextion Display Install #nextion #v6

Aaron,

I believe the correct file for the Raduino Nano is the UBITXV5_CECV1.200_NS and the signal processor gets the UBITXV5_CEC_V1.200_NX_S.

Here is the page that explains on Hamskey.com:

It is in section 5 on that page.

Re: Nextion Display Install #nextion #v6

Just to be sure. With adding the second nano, I upload the firmware file?UBITXV5_CEC_V1.200_NX_S?to the uBITX which is the original Nano.?
I'm not seeing what firmware I need to load to the second Nano. Is it the same firmware or is it different and if it is different where do I find it at??

Goody - you are making lots of great software changes. I appreciate all the work you are doing!

I'm working on some changes in the signal processing section to fix the audio going to FLDIGI and to a lesser extent the speaker. I've learned that the functions that write samples to the linux audio system do not always accept all the samples you tell them to take - so you have to loop back through and write out the remaining samples. I have the changes prototyped; audio to FLDIGI is looking great - and was close to submitting a pull request when I noticed a related audio problem I now have to debug.

I need to put together some "tools" to be able to recreate the problem in a controlled environment. Thinking that FLDIGI can generate an audio file with any of the modes it handles - CW, RTTY, PSK-31, etc. Then Audacity can be used to add noise if desired, and translate the whole spectrum up to the IF range. Then the file can be played back into the sbitx application. It's just a matter of getting the sbitx app to accept those samples from a different source than the CODEC in the radio.

Once this all gets worked out, it'll be much easier to troubleshoot or modify the signal processing code to support new features like noise reduction, notch filtering, etc.

I found the problem with my FIELD_SELECTION buttons not updating text. ?In my last commit I added code for “rollover”, so that when you’re scrolling through (for example) modes, it will go?USB -> LSB -> CW -> CWR -> FT8 -> PSK31 -> RTTY -> DIGITAL -> 2TONE -> USB -> etc. and stop stop at the beginning or end of the selection list. ?This introduced a bug which I fixed. ?Latest code:?

Regarding the CW TX/RX endless cycling loop, I noticed with my ui_tick mod that the cycling occurs faster than with the stock code. ?Not sure if that helps.

Hi David,

Any magnetic material could have been used to change the inductance of the air wound coil.? However, unless the material is specific for the frequency being used, it will cause an increase in loss in the coil (the oscillator output would be much lower).? Iron is not an appropriate material at HF (although it's great for 60Hz transformers) so even though it would adjust the coil inductance, it would cause a lot of loss.

An appropriate powdered iron or ferrite core (as used in Ten-Tec PTO's to adjust their air wound oscillator inductor) but would be mechanically more complicated.? All of these ferromagnetic materials increase the inductance of the air coil.

Brass, or another conductive but non-magnetic material like aluminum, can also be used to instead, lower the inductance of the coil.? As you know, brass is easily found in a nice screw form for this application and is also durable for such use.? In the QRP world, it's been used similary in the QRPBuilder PTO kit, and the Norcal 2030 and MMR-40 transciver kits.

It also has been used extensively in the past like in the mechanical tuner turrets in old TV's (where each of the 13 channels had its own air wound coil that needed to be tuned to each channel).? They could have just adjusted the spacing of the coils of each air inductor however this is a lot more laborious and the other components of the day that were also in the tank cirucit were not stable enough with aging and so the tank required frequent adjustments.? Modern VHF circuits using air wound coils often stable enough components that air wound coils are adjusted during manufacturing and then fixed with wax.

Cheers,? Mark

In the video on youtube ( ) it all happens automagically. If multiple people is responding just select the first decoded.

I am using the latest from github.

It is the volume of the FT8 signal sent out from the sBitx. Where do I change the volume of that. The volume knob does not change it.

Re: DAYLIGHT RADIO - PLASTIC TOROID MASTER

Interesting question David.
Did a bit of research but couldn't find a satisfactory answer.
So it maybe a quirk of history, like driving on the left or the right side of roads. Brass screws are fairly common in the shipping industry. So I am guessing the early experimenters with radio were connected to ships in one way or another. So maybe they used readily available brass hardware to tune Oscillator coils.

I am going to look at timing more today.? I'm now experiencing?a screen update problem with buttons.? I don't know what is causing it, but my gut says it's the timing mod I did, though I saw the problem for the first time last night.

I honestly haven't had a QSO with the sBitx yet, but I don't think a paddle or straight key is usable with the stock code.? There's definitely a timing issue.
