Yes it is the volume pot. The H is the high side (input) to the pot.

Thanks Mark,

The home made clorox wipes are only for the car and the doorknobs and handles on the house doors. I have 'hand sanitizer' spray in both the car and the kitchen as well as convenient foaming hand soap at every sink in the house. All of it is non-spill. I think I already have the peroxide here. Meanwhile I have a pile of the prototype boards with the plated through holes to make modules for accessories and sections of complete radios. I will still want to etch some. Last time I etched boards I used the Ferric chloride. That stuff is ugly. It has been a while.

Re: Homemade Circuit Boards

If somebody wants to figure out how long it takes a marble to go through their uBitx,
here's a good starting point:? ?

That path through the uBitx is mostly copper.
The example says that for a 1 Amp current flowing through a copper wire of 2mm diameter,
the individual electrons are travelling at around 23um/sec.
So takes 1e6/23 = 43478 seconds (about 12 hours) for one electron to move one meter down the 2mm diameter copper wire.

Electron speed will be proportional to current flow, and inversely proportional to the cross sectional area of the wire.
With a 1ma current, would take a year through that same 2mm diameter 1 meter long wire.
With a 1ma current through a 20mm diameter wire that is 1 meter long, it would take 100 years.

There must be an amazing amount of potential energy in those small components if large currents can flow and the electrons that flow out are electrons that have still been in there for a long time (years?).?

The physics in the group may be able to shine a more accurate light upon this. Hopefully they don't blow all this amazement and wonder up into some more mundane reality.

Re: Homemade Circuit Boards

Lots of stuff I knew when I was 13 years old that has now been forgotten.
Thankfully.

Charge is simply a count of a surplus (or deficit) of electrons.
One Coulomb of charge is?6,240,000,000,000,000,000?electrons.
Think of a wire as a long pipe full of marbles.
Push in 6,240,000,000,000,000,000 marbles on one end and?6,240,000,000,000,000,000 fall out the other end,
We might say that's one Coulomb of marbles.
If that pipe is very very very very long, it might take years for any of our new marbles to fall out the far end.

Push in 6,240,000,000,000,000,000 marbles each second, and we might say you have a marble flow of 1 Amp.
Try it!

It's possible. I recently read a post on Quora that was a real eye-opener. This guy said he was a physicist, and that many people had a misconception about electricity.

Here it is: "Current" is flow of electrons. Electrons flow around our circuits at the speed of light.

He said that electrons do NOT zoom around in wires at the speed of light. In fact, they move very slowly. What moves around our wires at the speed of light is "charge".
Charge is ( I think ) the status of an electron existing at a higher energy level.

This electron bangs in to the electron next door and transfers its higher energy level to it. Then that electron bangs in to the next electron etc.

It's rather like that desk toy with a row of suspended ball bearings. You swing the end one, it bangs into the next one and ultimately the one at the other end swings - without the ones in the middle moving much. It's called
a "Newton's Cradle".

Re: Homemade Circuit Boards

Hi,

I did read the Clorox label and it does not say anything about HCL. Around about 60 years ago a school teacher (biology) told us the laundry bleach was made around hydrochloric acid during the lessons about our stomach and the acid found there. It was on the test. In those days I aced all tests and classes. Over time that morphed from laundry bleach to Clorox. I will take my magnifying glass and my brand new bifocals to the store and read the labels on the various brands of 'laundry bleach'. At least ubtil that super fine print gives me? headache. Do you suppose that teacher could have been wrong?

Over the years I have used a solution of Clorox and water to disinfect food prep surfaces that I suspected of more serious contamination than vinegar would kill. In fact, I have used it to disinfect 'touch' surfaces on my car with home made wipes made with spent dryer sheets and a soluton of Clorox and water. Covid you know. It is nasty stuff whatever is in it and I wouldn't (never did) mix it with other things (besides water). That could be suicidal. The biology teacher told us that too.

Back to the real subject at hand. I am going to use the peroxide mix. I was going to try that several years ago and was sidetracked by life. Most of us know how that happens. Thanks for the reminder about that.

OMG!

Don't mix things with bleach!

Bleach is not an acid but a strong base, containing 3-8% sodium hypochlorite.? Do not mix it with any acid, or pretty much any household chemical!? Bleach can then generate toxic Chlorine gas. Toxic because the gas combines easily with water/moisture (like inside your lungs) to make hydrochloric acid.? This was actually used as a chemical weapon in WWI.? We want to etch circuit boards, not our lungs!

Stay safe.
