I am wondering ware you found the 3.2 Nextion file I tried one from UBIT_nextion_GUI-V3 it has tft files for 2.4 to 9.0 but when I loaded the 3.2

it did not fill the screen, left about 1/2 inch blank on the right side and all the functions did not work.

Thanks Bill K9JUI

I have converted the 3.2" files for 5" display (well work in progress) I still have the Spectrum display to re-scale when I can work out how to do it.
I have spent quite a few days on it so far but its getting there.

Where are the latest Nextion tft files for the 5inch. Are they on Ian's site now.

Re: Help Me Interpret this Spectrum?

Mark and Tom, I think you have steered me to the answer for the dBm question, the AD2 physically just has two analog inputs, they can be scope ch1/ch2, or SA, or whatever but they are designed as scope inputs.? My signal sample comes from a 47dB tap on my dummy load (home brew from parts which is why the odd number of dB).? Assuming my decibel math is right -- which is a stretch -- uBitx is putting out nominally 7w (antenna SWR meter says) == 19V @50Ohm == 47dB down is 0.080V, 80mV.? I see this on my tek 2246 scope, plus/minus calibration (it goes without saying none of this equipment is calibrated!).? I put this into the AD2 to look at spectrum as above.? I was checking the AD2 manual to make sure I wasn't blowing it up, which it said it was ok, and that now makes sense since these are designed as scope inputs.? I have a kit step attenuator, which let me put another 60dB in front of the AD2 (again assuming decibel math correct, that should be in the vicinity of 50uV).? It didn't look like it made any difference, which I think makes sense now.?

Whew, this uBitx assembly is really living up to expectations for making me learn (!).? According to the manual it will do cursors, I have to go find this feature.

Re: Help Me Interpret this Spectrum?

Hi,

I think the difference is a scope is a high input impedance voltage measuring instrument so it has no idea where one milliwatt is, so it has to use a voltage reference such as 1 volt dBV.?

A spectrum analyzer, on the other hand, is designed with a known low impedance input (generally 50 ohms), so it knows the wattage at the input because it knows the load (at the input connector) the instrument is putting on the measurement. Spectrum analyzers are generally designed to be sensitive so a power reference of 1 milliwatt is used dBm. This would correspond to 0.224 volts RMS across a 50 ohm load.

Decibels are by definition a power ratio so whether a spectrum analyzer or scope, if the voltage is used to calculate the DB level it has to take into account the square law for voltage to power, as the voltage when it is eventually applied to a load will dissipate power. ?

Pat,
in your IDE, under "tools", what Board, Processor and Programmer did you select?

"Board" should be "Nano"
"Processor" should be "ATmega328P (old bootloader)"
"Programmer" should be "AVRISP mkII"

Are all the libraries installed, that are needed by the sketch??

I got some assistance on the PinChangeInterrupt.h from Paul Fillmore, and finally got the amunter sketch compiled, but now when I try to upload the compiled sketch, I am getting an unspecific error message that there was a problem uploading to the board. I can't find anything helpful about what to do next on the net. Any ideas what I can try next?

Hi,

The dBV only choice may not be so strange as maybe that is the sensitivity of the input?? On my old SA, I need to use about 60dB of attenuation on the 40m signal from the ubitx before inputing to the SA.? What do you use on your AD2?? What is the input impedance of the channel you are using?

Mark.

Re: Help Me Interpret this Spectrum?

Thanks for the thoughtful comments.? Definitely still learning how to use the tools.? I did need to update to the latest software.? Oddly, dBm is not a choice for units, seems weird since this is all executed in software.? Tonight I got the AD2 to put out two audio tones (1kHz, 1.4kHz) at 50mV into the mic port.? Power meter said 5w, spectrum analyzer shown below.? I feel like I am on the right track but need to clean up the sprawl of wires on the bench before taking conclusions.?

Hi Ron,

For comparison, above is my SA CW data from an unmodified v3 ubitx.? My spectrum analyzer is a standard analog type with a CRT and using a 10kHz bandwidth filter.? Photo numbers on the right refer to the photo numbers in my photo folder here on this site.

OK, I followed the Geexer instructions? for the Amunter .ino file.? When I got to the step to choose Verify/Compile, it gives the error message "PinChangeInterrupt.h" file or directory not found." I obtained the file from GitHub but somehow, the IDE cannot find it even when I edit the source to specify a specific folder. Ubuntu Linux, I thought I knew enough LInux to do this, but I am obviously missing something. Ideas? I feel I am so close now!

Re: Help Me Interpret this Spectrum?

Hi,

Here is a video contrasting a scope FFT calculated spectrum vs a spectrum analyzer.?

Well sort of, the spectrum analyzer in this instrument is sort of an SDR design, but it does accomplish high dynamic range.

I wonder where the Analog Discovery 2 falls, as it has 14 bit A/D converters. The Tektronix video above compares the FFT of a 8 bit A/D scope with their digital Spectrum Analyzer implementation.

The Analog Discovery device does seem to be neat device.?

Re: no output power on 40m and above #ubitx-help

I had an issue with my V4 that I got nothing out on 21, 24 and 28mhz. The power mosfets were warm and current draw from the rig was around 3 amps. It turned out to be the d13 line from the nano micro was high, constantly pulling in the bandpass filter for those bands, this is the TXA line.
You could have a similar problem.
