ubitx receive signal
I just got the ubitx and wired it up.
I was able to use a signal generator to hear a signal on 7.150MHZ that sounded good.? But listening to a station that sounded good on my regular radio I could hear it clearly but ubitx on the same antenna it was a bit weaker signal and hard to understand. I noticed it use about 150ma just powering up for the smoke test which isn't within the documented limits. I noticed base of Q12 has more than the documented voltage at a little over 10 volts which is above what is expected. The two antenna pins I noticed only have about 1.8 ohm resistance not sure if that is normal, continuity tests show that as basically shorted to ground. I noticed the K3 relay seems different than the other relays pin 9 seems shorted to pin 5.? (K3 Pin 9 Seems like the only pin of all the relays that is grounded) K3 pins 5 and 3 seem shorted as you would expect. I noticed all of the other relays: 12 and 5 shorted, 14 and 3 shorted and 16 and 1 show shorted but on K3 12 and 5, 14 and 3 and 16 and 1 aren't showing as connected? (they show about 10k resistance except for 16 and 1 that don't show connected at all. Is there a K3 relay issue here perhaps or is that normal for that relay? Any other ideas for receive strength improvement/checks? Thanks. |
Re: Version 4 bitx squealing after nextion upgrade.
I am told, Evan, that the blink.ino can cut short the original program even if present there. so? people feel that the? arduino and its saved eeprom memory values are erased. ?. I would suggest as advised by a sr programmer friend, to use the given ino in my earlier message ?. ?If you are habituated to compile and program? , please do it . This wouldd clear all the fixed values like frequencies , etc, Later you can load the stack firmware as given by farhan. regards sarma vu3zmv On Sat, Dec 15, 2018 at 9:17 PM Evan Hand <elhandjr@...> wrote:

,Please try to vacate the eeprom contents using some ino and then load stock version and let us see . |
Re: Version 4 bitx squealing after nextion upgrade.
Uniflite58,
The resistor is needed even if you do not plan on CW.? The uBitx can get into CW transmit mode without the resistor.? Per the instruction from HF Signals be sure to install the 4.7k resistor between the blue and green wires from the Raduino board (NOT the main circuit board).? Insulate it and then try again. It still may be toast, but you need the resistor connected. Here is the link to the wire up instructions: 73 Evan AC9TU |
Re: Version 4 bitx squealing after nextion upgrade.
Thanks Evan,? The lcd is and was at full brightness. I did not have the cw resistor in place as I didn't plan on using that mode.. Right after that is when the problem started.? I reverted back to the stock hex file and re-installed the 2 line display and the problem persists. I think it's cooked. |
Re: Help Wanted
To follow up on this, there is a calibration file on this group for the CEC firmware that will get you real darn close. I used it on my board and its close enough to work FT8 with. data only phone, no call/txt telegram @folfyshark On Fri, Dec 14, 2018, 5:22 PM Terence Taylor, <n6mon@...> wrote: Have an offer of help. Re: Version 4 bitx squealing after nextion upgrade.
I would start with verifying that the dimming function is at full lcd bright.? There is a known issue with the chopping circuit on the lcd display causing audio issues. The issue that I ran into in the upgrade was that the calibrations were all off afterwards.? I velieve this was caused by me loading the software onto another nano. Not sure the root cause, however I have read on this site that holding in the encoder button while powering up the unit will reset to factory settings.? I would try that after checking the lcd setting. Are you sure you have the resistors CW in place and that the rig is not transmitting (I know, stupid question, however I did run into this one time with my rig.) After insuring the the rig is not transmitting, disconnect the speaker and verify all of the settings using the CEC configuration screens. I would also suggest that you download the CEC memory manager program in the google drive link in the following : This is for modifying old releases to work with the memory manager, but I did find useful info on operation: Beyond the above, I would need more information on what changed from before to after the upgraded as well as the process used to load the new programs into the nano. 73 Evan AC9TU |
Version 4 bitx squealing after nextion upgrade.
I upgraded to a nextion 2.8 last night and its up and running properly. However, all I can hear now is a constant high pitched tone and loud squeaky scratchy sounds when tuning. Volume pot has no effect on volume. I've checked all my connections several times. If I lift the board off the standoffs it gets worse. I do have a good ground to the board.??If I unplug the nextion, the squeal goes away but receive is absolutely dead. I can barely hear the encoder ticks. Antenna is hookep up.??Any Ideas anyone?

The SPURS and HARMONICS are two different issues. In my mods and tests of 3 boards, harmonics are cured with relay change - KT1//2/3 and that reduces the spurs too. With change of L5/7 with Shielded SMD ONLY or 45MHz LPF ONLY the spurs are fixed but not the harmonics. This has been tested on 3 boards here at my lab and also demonstrated to Farhan. I don't any need for further repeat messages of the same mods ad nauseam. Raj At 15-12-18, you wrote:

Why should we replace relays ?
I remember Ashar Farhan's findings regarding source of spurs,? and he was trying to treat that section. ?The earlier mod was how to remove spurs once created. People had many ways, one being relay replacement. If RF signals even now assemble with old relays, they would have a reason, right. I suppose, it is better to wait and see the next version board and then adopt the mods with specific reference to that board. regards sarma vu3zmv |

I have a bitx40 as Bill noted.? Should I have installed a different version of the software?? I'll read the instructions you posted, thanks.
