Re: Ubitx evolving fixes updated to wiki? #ubitx # -help

i Tim, I believe Alyson has already cut up her board and can¡¯t really help you.
To a point I have.? That whole corner with relays was separated from the rest to evaluate ground loops and layout.? However I have enough info on the wiki and pictures as well. I can also still answer questions on that so I can fill in what may be missing for some. Allison |

I may gather my strength and order some more boards tomorrow

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello Gordon,?I received your LPF daughter boards today. They look great and will start working on your mod in the near future. I will let you all know how it works out. Startied using uBit-x-Happy-Happy
I got my uBitx a few month ago, but only made 1 or 2 contacts as I was busy building stuff. Then I got really interested with Dr. Ian's Nextion screen mod.
SO I downloaded 1.097 firmware and added a 2.4 Nextion touch screen and WOW. Having lots of fun learning the screen while making 1500 mile contacts? (central fl. to amarillo TX ,R.I , New Jersey, etc. The guys at our club got excited about this conversion. Thanks Dr. Ian. and Fahran? I still have a lot of mods/ ie signal display etc. Andy KM4TRT |

Re: UBITX Q90 mod with BFR106
Some basic testing of Q90 stage only.
I made up a quick proto PCB with the PA stages in a 'straight' line.? Loaded Q90 stages only using the BFR106 device. I used a BN43-2402 core for T8 with 4 turns bifilar 0.25mm wire. Allison's mods....R81 = 2k7 (gave exactly 12mA for the stage). C81 = 470pF, R83 = 8R2. Tested with 12v supply. 7mV rms (~-30dBm) from HP8640 sig gen, RV1 at max and measured out with scope. Now waiting for 2N2222A's to arrive to test next stage.? Meanwhile, lots of 'through-holes' to solder in. |

I totally love my case, it is very sturdy and I think looks good. Check it out at /g/BITX20/album?id=69609. David A Posthuma, WD8PUO 1 (616) 283-7703 -----Original Message-----

My problem is that the mod's are coming in fast and furious and being a tinkerer ....I'd rather tinker than talk. SOOoooo I've already pulled the top off my case and have wires and boards hanging out all over the place. Lots of fun. When the mod's slow down I'll look for another case. I'm leaning towards Kee's 6 filter board cuz I know I'll want to do more with this ubitx. Got to get the mod's done first to estimate the case size. My current problem is my Tektronix 491 SA is dead AGAIN. (got to dump that and a reliable SA)? So I have to depend on other folks to analyze the fixes. don ?? |

Yes, we did, because we have a new one that we will post shortly. I'll make a post to the group when it's ready to go. There are still a few hiccups in the code, but we want to at least get out the idea of what JackAl's all about. Jack, W8TEE

Re: UBITX...getting to legal ???
Ok Allison, if the IMD issue is confined to the first stages as it seems then won't the operator be blamed? If this is the case, the IMD issue in the uBitx would produce just a very limited negative externalities. Iz oos, Generally yes presuming anyone notices.? Its also about how bad.?? Re: UBITX Q90 mod with BFR106
To get from ideal to real you need series R (both copper and ferrite losses), coupling less than 1,
and stray inductance. The cap at 470 PF as emitter bypass was to compensate for the crappy amp that followed it. It was never there to flatten Q90, quite the reverse.? Even then I found the value of the cap to be variable from 330 to 1000pf depending on the radio. The original was with 10ohms and .01uf on the emitter of the Q90 amp.? It was farhan that proposed 470pf and 8.2ohms to try an flatten the gain of the entire amp.? The goal (then) being set RV2 for 12-13W at 80m and get more than 2W at 10M. Also the original feedback R was 1K (collector to base) which gave on some units with 3904s from 22ma to as high as 30ma.? That is both too much current and?forces the 3904 to about HFE of 50 or less. plus the high emitter voltage drop (.2.2V) and collector voltage drop n R84 (10 ohms) means the part has a available voltage swing under 4.5V into maybe 200 ohms. Ideally we want flat for Q90 and stages after that.? The problem is NOT one of them is flat to 30mhz.? And I never measured 18DB power gain with a real 3904 at 30mhz, the best I've gotten was 12db. The actual amp is 11db down for most and varied from 9db down to some 13db down at 30mhz. (sample size 5). Beta being FT/Fop it can't be more than 10 at 30mhz for a common emitter amp. That being the case a 10DB amp using 3904 would be flat to 30mhz. For spice to be valid all devices and element have to be real.? The difference using Genesys using library ideal to real often was day and night.?? Allison |
Re: VE1BWV audio pop fix - lost my sidetone
Yes, the VE2BWV modification really works. I built it "on air" around the audio IC U1.
Sidetone got very weak, however. I suggest to? the following: -remove R253. This cuts even the rest of the weak sidetone. -solder a wire from R252/253:s junction to R75. Now the sidetone goes to unused half of U1. -take the amplified sidetone out on the other side of U1 pin 3 (C72). -route the amplified sidetone directly to the speaker (pin 7 /brown wire) on ANALOG jack of motherboard. You might want to put some serial resistance to the wire, but in my case the sidetone volume is just right. KEEP IT SIMPLE! |
Re: UBITX Q90 mod with BFR106
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAllison, concerning the transformer You are right, I only modified the "ideal transformer" by using a coupling coefficient <1 (stray indicutance) but not the ??? (loss) of teh ferrite material. Doing the same simualtion with a 2N3904 with the same "ideal
transfomer"gives 3 dB gain at 3 MHz and 18 dB at 30 MHz then
falling off. Playing with the emitter cap from 470 pf to 4700 pF gives a "flat" gain from 3 MHz to 30 MHz but this is not what we want, don?t we? To conclude: the simulation gives some hints of how a circuit will behave, but no calculator/simualtor can give the correct results if not all relevant parameters are put in!
