Programing Help for updating Bitx40

Jeffrey Peters

#Bitx40help

Greetings group,

I am very new to programing and would really appreciate anyone who would be willing to reprogram my new BITX40 with the newest software .
I would like to use my Bitx40 on the CW mode.? I am willing to learn about the reprogramming, but I do not have a clue where to start.? I have programed
a Leno? with the blinking program, and even adjusted the time on and off by changing the code and reprogramming.? I just do not understand how to copy the updated code sketch and the libraries needed.?

Thank you for you time and help with this matter.

Jeff, K9JP

Re: Two little circuit boards for my Bitx40 txcvrs

Ive got two of these that i need to find some time for. There is a module called "one big punch" which is think uses a chip from this family and the elecraft k2 ssb module uses one also.

Im thinking of putting in my mic housing. Will need some voltage regulation down 5v am presuming the electret module will run off 5v ok and some caps to isolate the power and the signal which run on the same wire. Will aim for 6db of compression. There is also some thinking re the input cap and the big cap on the board to target frequency response, ie I think there is some low cut that could be achieved.?

Re: uBITX vs HW-8

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I remember buying the HW 8 and matching power supply back in 1981 and if I remember right I paid just a bit over $100.00.? Ordering from the Heathkit catalogue.? Wish I still had it.

Hi Farhan,

Yes!? I remember looking at the HW-8 in the Heathkit Catalog and dreamed of owning one but as a poor College Student it would
have to wait.

But now even someone of modest means can join the fun on the HF Bands.

P.S. Need to find a inflation calculator and see how much $129 in 2017 is in 1970 dollars as a comparison.

Re: Reverse polarity diode circuit

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I still think the Fast Acting Fuse and Diode is the answer.

I got small pigtail 4A fuses from All Electronics.? They are 30 cents.? I wrapped a spare inside BitX.

If I ever Blow it, the replacement is right there.

They have wires soldered on them, no need for a big Fuse Holder on the back of BitX.

Poly fuses take time to go off.? They typically "Open" at 2X there hold current.? So you have to make design decisions.

I never have reverse biased my BitX?? So It it should be a rare event.

I will get Fast Response if I do, better protection than Poly Fuse.

A 3 Cent 1N4002 will blow the fuse.

To me, considering the rarity of the event, it is the Best Solution!? But, of course, there are a lot of Solutions.

Yes, I know this subject has been pounded too much, but I am too waiting for UBit I ordered on the 9th!

You will love this on CW I had to tone it down to get a clean 5W it was near 8W before (I have amps with 5w drive for qth ops). 1st contact was w1aw for the state ops they did last year. I haven't updated to the new firmware and use a qrpguys.com keyer that works great.

ubitx s here

HI Bitxers:
I ordered my ubitx on Dec 9, picked it today at the post office packed in a plastic box , great service looking to getting it up and running soon!!

Re: Two little circuit boards for my Bitx40 txcvrs

Also possible to use two soldering irons (one to heat each end of the SMD component).?
They will stick to one of the irons so be prepared to wipe them off with a sponge or other
iron cleaning tool.?

Hello Mike,

A Hot-Air Gun seems to be the recommended way to remove SMDs from a PCB.
But please be careful. I recently bought one, and I have toasted a couple
of "practice PCBs" while learning how to use it. I still have some more
practice to do before I feel comfortable using it.

Or crush the SMD with clippers, then remove each half individually with a small solder tip.

Re: Small question about LCD mounting

Dan and all, the proper way would be to position your decal exactly
before using the Solvaset. When you apply the Solvaset, DO NOT TOUCH
THE DECAL AGAIN until it is perfectly dry -- maybe a couple of days to
be sure. 73 - Rich WB2GXM

As Jeff said, this group is really great and very helpfull - tnx for your replies :-)

@Brian: I guess you nailed it!? Tomorrow I'll get round to check your linked Post - mny tnx!

BTW: My test equipment is the network analyser kit "FA-NWT plus", sold by the German Radio Amateurs Magazine "Funkamateur" -> .

Unfortunately this version is no longer available, you can only try to buy this as a second hand set. But, a brandnew kit is advised for the next year, maybe it will interest you :-)

Re: BITX40 - frequency spectrum - Raduino irradiation - intermodulation products - #bitx40help

Jeffrey, you don't necessarily need to do any programming.
Just download the software to your PC and then upload it into your Raduino
via a USB cable.
To do this you first need to install the Arduino IDE onto your computer.
See /g/BITX20/wiki/Raduino-Topics for instructions
related to installing/uploading the software.

Mine was confirmed with a tracking number also, but DHL's site would not show a status, something about an error that affects many deliveries.? ?DHL tried to deliver it today and I was not there to receive it, so they will attempt redelivery next week!? Re: BITX40 - frequency spectrum - Raduino irradiation - intermodulation products - #bitx40help

Frank,
Your test equipment is impressive! I would love to have access to something like that.
What you are seeing looks very much like what I reported in a post in March,? /g/BITX20/topic/4521126#23229.
It appears to be related to harmonics of the 5MHz LO and 12MHz IF. For a long time I have been working on other projects but I have recently returned to the Bitx40 using Allard's sketch. I believe the answer is to use a 19MHz VFO and switch sidebands by moving the 12MHz oscillator and generating USB to mix with 19MHz and end up with LSB on 40m. To do that I need to change the crystal filter (for a 6 pole??) and get a reasonably steep slope on the lower side.
Fairly major changes.
It would also be interesting to compare the use of square wave and sine wave drive to the final Tx mixer.
