Just reposition the LCD with new holes.
Fillup the old holes with some putty and everything is OK!

I also put in the LCD upside down, misled by the printing on the PCB. Unfortunately I'd already cut the box and there was no way I could turn it around and still fit it in the same box.?

Find an SDR near you (I use sdr.hu) and look for strong signals on 40m and then see if you can go hear it. It helps me a lot.
