Now I face a difficult decision - modify my existing rig (which is built with TIAs) or start from scratch. Either way I can't wait to get started.

the ubitx has no critically tuned filters, etc. if could be built without a scope. I would guess, one module at a time....

Many thanks for these directions!
I want to start experimenting a bit with the Raduino code, and this document is very helpful to get started.

But before playing around in the software I would like to make a backup of the code that is currently loaded in the Raduino, for just in case.
Is there a way to download the code from the Raduino and save it as a backup?

There seems to be a couple of errors in the description section of the sketch. Under ¡°Stand alone modifications¡±

1.????? The step frequency resolution pot wiper should go to A6 vice A7

2.????? Step? 2 connect the 1 PPS to pin 6 vice pin 8

Jack, I'm embarrassed.

I started from the version of the code you pulled, changed the 12000000 Hz BFO reference to my actual measured value (11.998488 MHz) in line 38 (volatile uint32_t bfo = 1199848800ULL; //start in LSB correction. Actual BFO freq as measured: 11998488 Hz.) and the output freq and dial display freq are back in sync. ?Additionally, the VFO frequency range is still proper - 4.7-5.0 for 7.3 - 7.0 MHz. ?Output power is good and the signal that escapes is an intelligible SSB transmission.

All I can say at this point is that I have no idea what I broke during the previous six rounds of testing. ?I also can't explain how changing the BFO entry in the code didn't appear to change the output frequency range of the Si5351.

You can also, like I did is remove resistor 111, add 2 wires to go to a 1K potentiometer. Either lead going to the pot, install a 100 ohm?

resistor, so you don't over drive the LCD backlight. ?

Works great for adjusting to different background (inside the house, outside at the beach, ect.) ?lighting

The backlight can be dimmed by putting a resistor in series with the LED anode pin on the display (pin 15 on most displays).? Since the current draw varies widely with the color of the backlight LEDs you will have to experiment.? If you can, measure the current into pin 15 and then calculate a resistance that will reduce the current by 75% or so and see if the brightness is about what you want.? Then go from there.

In lieu of a 1pps from a GPS you could use anything which generates 1pps. Anything from a Rubidium 10MHz standard to a highly stable 1 or 5 or 10 mhz OCXO or even your AC power 50 or 60 hertz divided down appropriately to generate a 1 pps.

examples of very simple PIC devices programmed to do the dividing.



?I have done just this drive one of Hans' PROGROCKs with a 1pps from a 10MHz OCXO rather than a Gps - works very well.

I did put a heatsink on, I didn't know if I needed a heatsink.

When in doubt just add it, can't hurt.

I replaced the display with a non backlit display. ?I added a piece of metal to the tab of the regulator. It can withstand the temps but the metal added some mass as a heatsink

Unless I miss my guess, I would say that this is the latest incarnation
of the Minima. A general transceiver with the mixer replaced by a
multi-diode unit, the VFO a variation on the Si5351 DDS, and a somewhat
simpler circuit than the BITX40, but multiband. It will be interesting to know
what the IF is...

In other words, a new HF-1 transceiver.
