Re: Powering the BitX40 for portable use: votlages and battery chemistry
If one plans to run from LiFe2O4, there's no need to do anything different than when one runs lead acid.
Minimum cell voltage is 2.1VDC, Ultimate max is about 4.1V, but for long life most folks

Re: Powering the BitX40 for portable use: votlages and battery chemistry
Lots of IRF510's in RF amps running at 24v out there in the world. That is on somewhat thin ice if not driving into 50 ohms.
On the other hand, they are really cheap.

For mountaineering or glacier travel it's better to modify with 2SC1969 or

Re: Powering the BitX40 for portable use: votlages and battery chemistry
Watch out.
Your peak transmitted signal cannot exceed the maximum voltage rating of the transistors. I would be very hesitant of going beyond more than 14-15v. input DC. For the IRF510, that would be

Re: It stopped transmitting
Peter,
Any idea if this failure might have occurred due to a nearby transmitter while the Bitx was connected to an antenna?

Re: Powering the BitX40 for portable use: votlages and battery chemistry
I'm using LiFePO4 and it's a drop-in replacement for lead-acid (4x cells at 3.3V nominal; use lead-acid voltages - 10V minimum; 13.8V max.). LiCo/LiMn could be a bit more challenging as they carry

Re: Powering the BitX40 for portable use: votlages and battery chemistry
Using the Raduino, the LD78L09 is no longer needed for VFO stability, so you can likely go below your 10.7v Will lose dynamic range in those bidi amps as you get too low, but I wouldn't be surprised

Powering the BitX40 for portable use: votlages and battery chemistry
Hi folks,
I'm hoping to turn my BitX40 into a portable unit I can use for lightweight SOTA, particularly longer missions involving mountaineering or glacier travel. Ideally I would not use a SLAB

Re: missing c103
Billy
C-103 is a capacitor, not a potentiometer, and is not needed for an
un-modified BITX-40v3.
You would only need this and related components if you want to fine-tune
BFO offset for
LSB or want to
