Re: sBITX Upgrade PA Bias

Mark, just my experience ...
the resistor / torroid combinations were not soldered well to the board by me and Ive soldered lots of torroids in my past..mainly because of the enamel was still partly on the torroid wire.?
Once I fixed that I was good to go.

Re: Nextion 5" Enhanced vs Intelligent?

Spencer, I use 5 inch Basic screen with the Inkit box. I had noise from the power line to the Nextion (and yes, you need a separate power regulator for the larger Nextion screen) but this was 99% corrected by making a toroidal choke as described elsewhere on this site, 70-80 turns #22 enamel on a FT-114-43 toroid. (The noise was NOT an issue whatsoever with a 5¡± Nextion Intelligent version, but I could not find a dedicated file that gave full functionality so I went back to the Basic screen.)
I have had serious problems with the rig on CW on 24 and especially 28 MHz (lock into transmit on a short key down, and side tone disappears, requiring band change or power cycle to unlock). Is that the sort of free issue you are talking about, and how did you resolve the issue?

Hi Andrea,

That is most likely the issue: the leads may have been broken, or the setting moved.? I suggest you pick the band with the highest output and adjust it for 10 watts.

Troubles with output RF and modulation

Hello everyone, I have a uBITX20 V6 to which I installed the Display Nextion Base with FW KD8CEC V1.2 Hex Nextion. I find myself in the situation where the RF output power on all bands is 10W, except for the 40m band where it reaches 20W. The SSB and CW modulation is full and when receiving on another RX it is distorted. The trimmers for adjusting the Bias of the RF Finals are set as set by HF Signals. In fact, the original RF Power on artificial load was about 8W on 80 and 40m, and then decreased on the higher Bands up to about 3-4W on 10m. I guess now the levels of the three oscillators are too high. The HEX file doesn't allow me to see where to vary the four output possibilities of the Raduino (2/4/6/8mA). I have the CEC source files, but I don't have knowledge of programming with Arduino, from which to establish that the Display is Nextion and change these outputs; to then have the compiled hex file to be loaded on the Arduino Nano. Can any of you help me on this?
Thank you.
Andrea

Re: sBITX upgrade RTC

Wow! that looks a bit daunting for me, I think I will wait for the stable version. I hope this all automated in the future. Thanks Farhan.

Re: sBITX upgrade RTC

There is a new sbitx on the github. Read the install.txt and see if you can manage it. It will autosync the rtc if the internet time on the rpi is correct.
Or just wait a few more days for it to get stable.

Re: sBITX Upgrade PA Bias

Mark,

Another point: I would verify that the sBITX works at 12 volts, then increase it to 13.8 volts.? It is also best to use a current limited power supply for the bias adjustment.? My rig had RF feedback issues and would lock up in a state between TX and RX, drawing as much as 10 amps.? There has been only one other report of this issue, but it does not hurt to use a 3 to 5-amp current limit to start.

Re: sBITX Upgrade PA Bias

Mark,

Yes, you need to repair the cut trace from the software-based T/R fix that did not work.? You also need to remove the jumper.

The cut trace is why the bias adjustment is not working.? That line supplies the power to the bias circuits and the pre and driver stages of the amp.

sBITX upgrade RTC

Does anything need to be done to enable the battery backup RTC. ?I disconnected the network cable from the Raspberry pi and shut down and rebooted and the time was not correct. ?It was correct before the shut down.

sBITX Upgrade PA Bias

Last night I did the T/R switch upgrade to my sBITX. I am trying to adjust the PA Bias per the instructions. The radio is connected to a 13.8V variable power supply and a 50 ohm dummy load. The radio is set to 14.074 MHz USB. Mic is set to 0, the DRIVE_BIAS and PA_BIAS pots are fully counterclockwise. On receive, the power supply shows a current of about 700 mA. I press the PTT on the mic. The radio indicates TX mode, the current goes up maybe 40 mA, but then doesn't change with adjustment of the PA_BIAS pot. As far as I know, the finals were working fine prior to the upgrade. I did download and build the latest version (2.0) of the software from Github.

Previously, I did the mod that involved cutting a trace and running a jumper to a GPIO pin for TX. During the recent upgrade, I removed the GPIO pin jumper, but didn't repair the cut trace. Do I need to repair that trace or reinstall the GPIO jumper. ?I had also installed some diodes, do those need to be removed?

Re: No RF power output from uBitex V 6.0

Kelly?

are you testing it on SSB? If so you should not see power needle deflection when you are not whistle or talk into mic¡ (sorry if you know it) so better is to select CW and using ptt on mic. You should hear relay click, see TX icon on LCD and power deflection on power meter¡
Can you check it?

Petr

Re: No RF power output from uBitex V 6.0

Kelly,
You most likely don't have the same problem as VU2JCD.
Best to go back to your own problem thread as not to confuse the two.
It will also help people trying to help both you and VU2JCD.

Gary

Re: No RF power output from uBitex V 6.0

I have test equipment and I have a 100% stock 6 unit with the OEM Arduino and the 6.1 code it all came with. when I press PTT on the mic I get relay click and no RF output on a SWR meter, if I click PTT rapidly I will see the SWR meter spike but not much else. I could be inducing my own spark gap!

anyway would love to know what to check on my unit as it sounds like they are tested before shipping (I am back to LCD and stock nano with 6.1 on lower left)

Re: Nextion 5" Enhanced vs Intelligent?

Spencer,

If you have a 3.2 or greater sized Nextion, you will definitely need another 5v power supply. Otherwise, the 5v regulator will go into shutdown mode when it hits its max temp. The 2.8 screen works fine with the standard regulator.

Re: No RF power output from uBitex V 6.0

VU2JCD,

Be sure to test the relays while transmitting.? Best done with a dummy load connected.? You must select the new band and then press the PTT to verify that the relays are switching.
