¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWell, I probably have five of them, but I don¡¯t really use them. Once in a while I have called cq on 7277 or 7177khz. Have tried it on 14.277.?
Over field day I worked the one of our V3 uBITX' for about 3.5 hrs and made 33 phone contacts. 5 on 80, 11 on 40, 11 on 20 and 6 on 15. Almost all of them were on the extra portion of the band as it reduced competition.? My wife got 45 or contacts on ft8 on the same machine.? -- 73 Dave |
Re: Date for publishing Microcontroller Projects for Amateur Radio
There are too many ways - all of the *easy* - to not see posts we don't want to see. There is no reason to whine and cry about this. If ARRL doesn't let me know when the book is out please let us know right here. Anybody who doesn't want to see it can mute or silence this whole thread. I did that with some of the long winded WSPR and FT8 threads that I don't care about. I didn't have to bother anybody about it.

Re: "uBITX Home Frequency" idea
Evan just proposed what I believe to be the best idea I have heard for uBITX users to find and work each other -?using the BITX Live Map. Each of us could?activate "a specific symbol for each band" whenever we are listening on the appropriate ARRL QRP frequency for that band. All we need is an index of symbols. I have "activated" my call a few times but only seen one or two other "Live" symbols.? Never worked another "Live" station.? The map is a great tool.? Adding a frequency makes it better than just knowing there IS a needle somewhere in the haystack. Arv,
I am like you, more builder/tinkerer than an operator.? My logbook is really slim, mostly FT8 contacts.? All, As I stated earlier in the thread, I have tried the 7.277 MHz frequency, even with a scheduled meeting to help another ham with testing his uBITX.? Because of my antenna situation, we could not establish contact, as well as two others tried and none of us were able to establish a qso.? I even tried with my IC-7300.? The only way we knew what was happening was through emails sent between us. The BITX Live map is probably the best idea.? The one problem is knowing the band.? A slight mod to the symbols, with one for each band, could make that easier to use.? The one issue is that I have not seen any other live symbols on the map when I check it.? I have since given up. Above are just My opinions, yours can be different. 73 Evan AC9TU |

Our field day went FANTASTIC.? ?We helped new people gain skills faster than we've ever done before.? ?We did our first evver?field day as our ARES-based club....at the EOC, and also in an attached field as a 2F, using batteries to run linear amps when the EOC couldn't test their? generators, solar to charge, petroleum to run, satellite efforts (unsuccessful)? Thanks, Gordon. I've probably had 30 emails asking about the publication date, and this is just a faster way of reaching them. I had no idea it would generate so much flak. Hope you're enjoying the slight lull...how did your FD go? Jack, W8TEE

Re: "uBITX Home Frequency" idea
Not sure about having a specific frequency exclusively for uBITX on-air? meetings.?? 1) That might exclude contacts with non-BITX users. 2) Fixed frequencies sounds a bit like CB. 3) Moving up or down to avoid other close-by stations could destroy the idea. But then my views are not worth much because I am more of a builder? than an operator.? I get on the air mostly just to test some recent rig or? modification. Re: "uBITX Home Frequency" idea
I am posting this notice to uBITX operators: Next time I call CQ using a uBITX, I will be calling & listening on one of the ARRL QRP Calling Frequencies. I'm not notifying the ARRL because they are already expecting QRP ops to be calling there. If other ops I meet there have a problem with uBITX power, I will address that when it comes up.? I have made several uBITX contacts on the ARRL 20M &40M QRP Frequencies.? None of them have been to another QRP station. Re: "uBITX Home Frequency" idea
Most orgs except nets have given up on designated freqs. The qrp cw gang did this years ago, and folk obtained xtals for them. We just have too many competing interests. Groups like skcc use designated subbands plus a chat page on the web to find each other. I imagine folk have tried bitx ssb qso parties and the like. Remember we are on all the continents. You might just have to cq to see who answers.

Re: "uBITX Home Frequency" idea
If as you or someone here mentioned, the ARRL frequencies are more for establishing contact and then moving to another frequency, then the idea of a frequency for testing and possible ragchewing is not there. The 7,277 freq is what I was looking for but similar freqs on 80 and 20 meters, also. Here's another idea: Let's forget it and pretend it never happened. Bob ¡ª KK5R

Bob, I would then suggest that the use of the ARRL QRP frequencies, even though technically the uBITX is above QRP level.? That or just continue the 7.277/7.177 frequencies.? They have been set in the past. 73 Evan AC9TU |
