Re: Cw volume
Hello John,
There is a separate setting for the CW BFO in the settings. Scroll through the options after getting in setting mode, it is in the CW section if I remember well. I suspect yours is set too far off. I don't remember about the rig transmitting CW in SSB mode as I modified the CEC software after initial install. But if it is there it would be for tuning purposes I suspect. 73, John (VK2ETA) |
Re: New V6 on the air
There is a WPM button on the front touch panel.
I was looking for the iambic settings in the set up menu. I have yet to try the ubitx on cw. Still tinkering with the enclosure. I have fab skills, just not equipment. Im gonna play with it as is for a while before changing anything .... the favorites is an upgrade I will do when the time comes. Does anyone know if the enclosure and stuff is for sale separately ? |

Hi Gerard,
The mic, phone, and CW jacks are all for stereo 3.5mm plugs.? The mic jack uses the tip connection for audio, the ring for PTT, and the shield for ground.? The phone jack wires the tip and ring both for audio, so a stereo headset must be used (or a mono set wired for a stereo plug).? The CW jack is stereo so that a paddle may be used if desired. I don't recognize the schematic, what rig is that?? The AGC will depend on if you want IF or AF AGC. 73 |
Simples questions.

Hello to all,
Of which diametry are the plugs in facade of your ?bitx? Model mono or str¨¦r¨¦oI don¡¯t see much in the pictures, it looks like 3.5 mm, but I want to be sure. Is it an standard? For my construction, I would like to modify the amplifier part. I would like to add a switch to cut / put into operation AGC and also be able to control by potentiometer its effect. Can someone look at the amplificator sch¨¦matic and tell me where to make the change. Thank you |
Re: New V6 on the air
Bill: To my knowledge, none of my changes have made it back into the "official" code base. I created some pull requests early on, but they didn't go anywhere.
Barry: Maybe, but as I mentioned in the other thread, not planning on doing more Nano dev. The reason I got rid of the CW button was so I could add the favorites and menu buttons. Could get rid of some band shortcuts, but which ones? Of course, anybody with a little initiative could decide that for themselves and make the change ;) Matt: Sorry for the accidentally hijacking! I do recommend giving my software version a try, since I did try and add a number of improvements, including the 4 favorites slots I mentioned earlier. And as Evan mentioned earlier, there's the speaker jumper on the main board, and you will need a TRS plug to make the jack behave, since a mono plug will short the ring and sleeve, thus killing the audio Reed |

I worked on another ham's V6. It is no longer here. I have only a V3 with CEC software. The V6 had the original software when it arrived here. That was useless on CW due to *extreme* latency. At the owner's request I installed your software:) It immediately cured the latency problem and also the 17 meter problem. I did not see a way to conveniently change the CW speed although I did find and use it. My understanding is your improvements have been rolled into the "official" HF Signals software - a boon no doubt. My personal opinion of your software - it does what it is supposed to do and did a nice job. You done good. My comments about how many steps are required to change speeds are related to my own personal preferences and operating style. There are likely to be others who would like the same thing. The external keyer handles it nicely. I don't plan any changes to my V3 over that. 73, Bill KU8H On 5/24/20 12:41 PM, Reed N wrote:

Re: V5+digiboard and first calibration // paused for 20 years
Peter, For SSB, you would adjust for best sound based on your preference.? For CW you may want to narrow the reception by optimizing for less than 1000 Hz, creating a more narrow receive range at the expense of SSB sound/signal quality. ?With CW you do not need to worry about carrier suppression. Since I do both SSB and Digital, I have centered the pass band between 300 and 3000 Hz as Ashhar Farhan has suggested. When I have my code speed up I have an audio filter to install for that mode.? Of note, the KD8CEC Nextion software allows some of these adjustments to be done without having to go back and recalibrate. It has an IF shift function that can adjust where the signal is in relation to the SSB filter sweet spot.?

Reed, that would be nice on your 1.5.1 version.? ?;) Barry On Sun, May 24, 2020, 12:41 PM Reed N <greenkid336600+groupsio@...> wrote: Matt: I added a 4 channel favorites menu to my software version. Bill: Isn't there a dedicated WPM button for that on the stock v6 software? If your using a different software, it would be pretty easy to add or replace a button to get that functionality. Reed |

My beef with the uBitX keyer adjustments - CW Speed - is all the steps and hoops we must go through to change speeds. If you don't care about CW hit delete and move on now. It is hard for me to imagine there are hams who are actually slower than me but there are. The Q signal is QRS - slow down. I don't want the other ham to wander off for a cup of coffee while I change speeds and forget all about the QSO - maybe watch an episode of Happy Days on TV. <evil grin> I have another QRP transceiver with a microcontroller and I can change the 'words per minute' about as fast as with the speed control pot on legacy keyers. Maybe *one* second. My solution for that with uBitX is to use a legacy, external keyer with the uBitX in straight key mode. The only thing faster at speed changes is an actual straight key:) With a straight key we can change speeds right in the middle of a single character (except e or t). I have actually done that with said 'legacy' keyer. Usually not, just as a practical matter. But no layers of menu to go through just get there. Maybe the bright-eyed programmers can do something about that :) If not, the legacy keyer gets it done. Maybe this will help others with uBitX and similar radios with comfortable CW operation. The other helper is a good audio CW filter. For casual use the existing SSB filter is good enough. 73, Bill KU8H On 5/24/20 11:23 AM, Evan Hand wrote:

Re: V5+digiboard and first calibration // paused for 20 years
Hi Evan, and thank you very VERY much for the comprehensive answer - I was not hoping nor expecting this :) Now I'm stuck at step one (using the tuning aid) ?already:??says to tune the knob until the noise graph is centered between the two red lines (which I did).?But: in the video you can see Ashnar tune the passband to the left until it starts shifting right again. At least on my setup, this is not the same! |
Re: New V6 on the air
Matt,
What are you looking to change in the CW settings?? Words per minute and tone are on the main menu.? The other settings would be in the setup menu that I have read is a long push on the encoder.? You will need help from an owner of a v6 much beyond what I have already given, as I do not own one. There is a calibrate video here:??for version 6.? Here is the BFO tuning page:? I hope this helps.?? 73 Evan AC9TU |
Re: New V6 on the air
Thanks for the replies!?
Thanks Evan! I missed the on board speaker connection. That just solved that. I also seem to be missing the cw menu, or I just haven¡¯t figured out how the get to it yet. I did manage to find the set-up menu ... and I think I managed to get the frequency off a bit. But all I saw there was the wwv and bfo stuff. |
Re: Is there a complete v1->v2->v3->v4->v5->v6 hardware version history?
Allison,
Thanks for your succinct review and history of the microbitx (ubitx) evolution. ?The question is often asked here in one form or another as individuals like me try to find info on the older versions. ?I'm still trying to find time to finish my V4. ?The one thing that has happened during my delay is the resolution of many of the issues (harmonics, AGC, etc) that I can now take advantage of. ?Fortunately, the history is all here if one is willing to make the effort to do the research. ?I'll also say that considerable basic history on the ubitx can be found by searching the ARRL on line archives. And thanks again Allison, not just for the history provided here, but also for the considerable guidance you have provided to all of us in resolving many of the problems with our radios. ?For many of us, the fun is in the building/creation of these little bitty electronic miracles that allow us to communicate around the world on 10 watts or less. ?Having built my first 1 tube (1T4) reciever nearly 70 years back I'm still at it and still learning from elmers ?like yourself. ? -- Sodypop? Re: CW Menu missing CEC v1.2 Ubitx v6
Vic,
I downloaded the zip file from:?? extracted the files and tried to open the hmi with both the current and LTS Nextion editor.? In both cases I get a "Wrong resource file or resource file has been damaged" error.? Do you have a suggestion to correct the error? 73 Evan AC9TU |
Re: New V6 on the air
there is vfo a and vfo b. if you switch to vfo a and tune around, then switch the vfo, the previous frequency is saved on vfo a. works the same way with vfo b too. with the two you can also work split. i usually set the vfo a to my fav 7020 and the vfob to 14.200 mhz. - f On Sun, May 24, 2020 at 4:40 PM Evan Hand <elhandjr@...> wrote: Matt, |
