Re: rotary encoder
It is easy to wire up a couple of LEDs with 1K resistors and connect them to 5V and the two switched outputs of the encoder.? Other side of the switches goes to ground.? Now when you slowly rotate the shaft you can see each individual LED turn on and off in an over-lapping fashion.? _._ On Thu, Jan 2, 2020 at 9:35 AM <dgclifford@...> wrote: hi guys anyone know where i can get a new rotary encoder? for my ubitx v5? or how to test the existing one |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI can give you a partial answer. I read awhile back that Bourns is the supplier. The part number was also given but, I no longer have sameOn Jan 2, 2020, at 11:35 AM, dgclifford@... wrote:

if it was purchased recently, and has a LCD on its raduino - its likely a V5.? the frequency on the xtals in the large IF filter are another clue.? a key modern trend is to not ship manuals via paper or CD anymore - much more economical to download these.? also - you might react a bit by the minimal nature of the manual.? some sweat equity in thought is required.? but enough clues are available for successful assembly (aka wiring up the board with connectors).? a key decision point is what enclosure you will employ.? if you provide your own - there should be enough connectors available to build your ubitx.? key advantage of v5 is that its spurious should be low enough, not needing the substantial mods of v3/v4.? it should be a nice rig when you get it assembled - enjoy the assembly journey - and explore how you wish to shape this into the rig you prefer (display type, accessories integrated - or not).? its a very nice rig even in stock form or nearly so as in my case thus far.? one final thought - a little frustration seems universal in building a uBitx.? hang in there and enjoy the ride.? if you are really wondering 'where the case will come from' - check out amateurradiokits.in or use your search engine to find other suppliers.? welcome aboard! 73 Curt |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi James, ? The docs are on-line. Try first then surf around from there. ? 73, ? KX4TD Jim ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of James Giercyk ? I received a uBitx v5 (I think!) as a gift for Christmas.? There was no documentation of any kind with it.? Just a board and some parts in a plastic box.? I find that a little strange, and in reading some of the older messages posted here, it appears that there should be an assembly manual.? I believe it's v5 but I've got no way to identify it as the board does not have a version silk screened on it.? I do not see any way to contact the manufacturer, and a google search sent me here for support. |

Re: Future Ubitx, SWR layout lines on PCB.
I would imagine the best alternative is to have it outboard. The main challenge is that we don't have enough analog lines from arduino to measure and control. Not much activity in 10 in india at all, 6m even less. - f On Thu 2 Jan, 2020, 8:00 PM MVS Sarma, <mvssarma@...> wrote:

Re: ubitxV6 Bricked?

I have had similar issues with a Raspberry PI, That turned out to be a cable issue: The wire gauge was too small/ wire too long to supply the current without dropping the voltage below the required value.? You could try using the shortest and thickest usb cable to see if that helps.

Re: Future Ubitx, SWR layout lines on PCB.
Such thing, if orovided has to be shielded as otherwise internal radiation might pose problem. I recall numan cb q40? rf multimeter where the use copper rods inside a shielded chamber. It has operational range from 150khz to hf and vhf even . Sarma vu3zmv On Thu, 2 Jan 2020, 7:42 pm ajparent1/kb1gmx, <kb1gmx@...> wrote: Fred, |
Re: Future Ubitx, SWR layout lines on PCB.
Fred,
Seriously?? ?Adding a stripline SWR requires space on the board that does not exist and it must have a ground plane under it.? However many vendors sell modules that can be added externally for SWR measurement.? No matter that it must be after the low pass filters on the board. Right now a dual band rig for 6 and 10 is unreasonable as there is no market for it.? Maybe as we near the peak of the sunspot cycle in 5 years. Also to put a rig on VHF the standards for spurs and harmonics have to be much better.? The finals are not as much an issue as everything leading up to them.? It would require a RF amp for RX as while sensitive enough for general HF 10M and 6M have lower background noise and need greater sensitivity. Generally the uBitx is a minimal radio with a minimal cost.? It seems a regular and recurring theme that for your 150$ you want everything that your 1000++$ radio has, maybe more. Re: Future Ubitx, SWR layout lines on PCB.
This could be an interesting idea, of putting these lines on the mother PCB but this would form a reflectometer,? a set of two matched pick-up lines with a primary line, and would be very short compared to the wavelengths involved at HF. This is generally used for single band use at VHF or UHF. I suggest that a Bruerne or a Stockton/tandem match bridge would be a better choice for the HF bands and be more versatile. The Stockton match can also be arranged with switching and a dummy load to provide quiet matching, of the antenna. |

there is a lot to be said for perseverance, at last i finally got it back to stock but when sending cw unless you send very slow /large gaps it locks up and sends a burst of steady? cw,? could this be a relay problem or is it software related. tx/rx led switches as well , learnt an awful lot, but there is a real need for a step by step guide that does not expect knowledge of arduino ide et al . 71 and still learning .? many thanks to those who offered advice along the way? dave c??
