Carlo and Kevin,
I bought the tuning knob ( well I bought 3 of them? !!) from this ebay seller

Hope that helps.
Malcolm?

Re: Question about Nextion display and firmware

Jacques,
Thinking about your idea again. Do you want to use the 2560 in place of the nano?

I looked at the schematics and it looks like it should be a 18 line connection to the corresponding pins in the 2560. Of course the 6 for the LCD display would not be needed.

I have spare 2560s and a 5" Nextion and may try to hook them up.
I don't see any advantage, except for the additional input/output and serial lines that would be available.
I haven't come up with a use for them (yet).

Let me know if that is what you want to do and I will hook mine up and give it a try.

Unbuilt uBITX Ver 4 and Blue Cab for uBITX for sale.

William Sallee

I have the uBITS Ver 4 and matching Blue Cabinet, unbuilt, for sale. Since I started using SDR, I just can't get inthused with a Heteradyne based radio. A friend of mine talked me into buying it, which I did, but as I look at the beautifully implemented PC board and components, I just can't bring myself to start soldering on something Super Heteradyne.?

So I want $180 shipped. You will receive the unbuilt uBITX Ver 4, with matching Blue Cabinet. I will take PayPal for payment and I'll ship Priority Mail
My email address is k6two@... ?
Thank you.

Low output Bitx40

I know this has been around the block a few times, but we need some help.

My BitX40 receives beautifully across the band but we have next to no output power on transmit. ?To get anything above 500mW both pots have to be wound fully up. ?What can we do to get up to the 5+ Watts we should get out of this rig?

Re: Question about Nextion display and firmware

if you join the facebook page ubitx you will get alot of info and the 1.095 is released a cw bug has been patched
I have done alot of work on the tft/hmi files 2.4-3.5

HI Malcom,
could you tell me where you obtained the tuning knob ?

Re: RD16HHF1 power curve flattening...some

I did this basic mod and it works fine for me.??

Try pulling the power plug going to the board.? There are 3 wires, one ground and 2 hot wires.? One of the hot wires goes directly to the finals and the other wire goes to everything else.? Disconnect the wire going to the finals and see if the fuse still blows.? If not, it could be fake parts , miswiring, or maybe you have shorted the cross over wires on the final.? I bought my finals from RF? parts.?

One other thought, did you cut the drive pot back? and rebias the finals with the other two pots ?? You may be driving it to more output or maybe the bias is set wrong.

Thanks for that dave! Hope you are all ok down there!! I will probably give you a bell when I get around to the download. I'm a complete nugget when it comes to PCs etc. regards....Paul

I can say from the pic that the "RD16HHF1" are fakes! Had my share of buying those fake stuff.

The clone boards are counterfeit when they use the "plus-minus infinity" trademark that Arduino.CC owns.? This has nothing to do with open-source.? Anyone can use open-source code, designs, etc.? But when someone steals a company's trademark and uses it on a product of their own, open source or not, they create a counterfeit.? Cheap watches from Hong Kong, marked "Rolex," for example.

Dictionary:? "Counterfeit: made in exact imitation of something valuable or important with the intention to deceive or defraud."? By applying the Arduino trademark, they create a counterfeit.? So someone buys a board with the copied Arduino trademark and thinks it's a genuine Arduino.cc device.? If it fails or has problems, it tarnishes the reputation of Arduino.? Clone manufacturers could avoid the counterfeit label if they simply mark boards "Arduino Compatible."? And not use the Arduino trademark.

Arduino.cc calls such products counterfeit, and that's good enough for me.? I buy genuine Arduino.cc boards and support the group's efforts.? Others can buy and use whatever they want.? 'Nuf said.

No Audio #ubitx

Received what I believe is Version 1 of mBITX in January 2018. Built unit and it worked fine until the TDA2822 audio amp smoked and burned. Replaced TDA2822 and know that it is inserted and soldered properly into the board. Now there is no audio. What happened? In soldering the audio amp in place did I somehow damage adjacent circuitry?

Re: Ubitx version 4.3

Hello Paul,
?????????????????? you need to download KD8CEC SOFTWARE and then transfer it to your 4.3 ubitx I had similar problems but all were resolved with the sioftware,,I use Richard G3 CWI dsp W/N cw filter works great now plus now got Touch colour screen and makes the radio so easy to use in fact a doddle.again youl need to download the software and transfer it to your radio, all info is available on KD8 CEC SITE.Dave G0AYD.

Many thanks for that Jerry! Live and learn, yes solely cw, so filters will be the way to go. SSB for me would be a bonus that I probably wouldn't use ! The main source of irritation for me is the very low rx volume and of course keying. I wasn't aware that the firmware was available for the version 4 ubitx so will try and work out how to use that, very hard for an old dog to learn new tricks (hi) many thanks for the heads up, it's really appreciated. 73 to you.... Re: 3.2in Nextion display now looks great.

Looks very nice Malcolm, I bought one of the 3.2E inch Nextion displays also, but I don't want to modify my already existing uBitx because it's all laid out for the 16X02 display and it looks good. I guess I'm going to have to buy another uBitx and another case. Oh well, I have to do what I have to do:-) Meanwhile this display is making me anxious to use it. I loaded the firmware into it and it works great.

Re: Windows Serial Port Problem

Jim Lommel

I would guess that the install went badly.? I think that there is a program called Windows Update manager that you should look at and see ifit will allow you to uninstall the update.? I also think that there is a setting in th Update Manager that you can set to not automatically install updates.

Re: Mike element

Tnx Jerry for this valuable explanation in plain English. I learnt a lot from it. Hope this topic could become a question in the FCC exam if not included yet (I don't remember I have ever seen it).

The receiver spec's how big of a signal goes in to give a desired result.
The microphone spec's how big of a signal goes out given a specific input sound level.
So the first gets a smaller number if more sensitive, the second increases if it's more sensitive.
Totally different industries, totally different notions of how to go about it.

A receiver's sensitivity figure in dBm tells us how much power must be coming in the antenna port
to achieve a specific result, in this case the "minimum discernible signal".
A power level zero dBm is arbitrarily defined as 1 milliwatt, and since typical signals at the receiver
are much lower in power, the receiver sensitivity is a fairly large negative number.

The microphone's sensitivity is defined as how big of a voltage signal we get coming out
when the microphone is presented with a sound pressure of one Pascal, and zero dBV is
arbitrarily defined as one Volt.??

Most of the speakers I buy state something like: "Response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz".
Not very precise.
They don't actually say what the response is, could be argued that catching fire is a response of some sort.

Here's a webpage on speaker sensitivity:
? ??

"Sensitivity
Sensitivity is most easily defined as the speakers¡¯ ability to effectively convert power into sound. The traditional way of measuring a speakers¡¯ sensitivity is using the standard of 1 watt/1 meter. Meaning a microphone is placed 1 meter away from the speaker to measure the sound output (in decibels) with 1 watt of sound played through it.?"

So like the microphone, they spec how big of a signal goes out (sound in dB) when given a specific input (1 watt of electrical power).
Makes sense, as would have been the same engineers working with microphones and speakers back when these things were defined.

Next question:?
What is 0 dB of sound, and shouldn't that dB have a letter following it to tell us what the baseline is when finding that ratio?

Answer:?
Zero dB of sound?is defined as the minimum discernible signal for the typical human ear.
No final letter because, well, it's a different group of engineers who defined it and they didn't care about the resulting confusion.
