#ubitx How to interpret serial number #ubitx

Question: How do I interpret the serial number on the ?BITX??

It appears that it has 3 segments: Alpha/Numeric/alpha ?( F / 142 / h ) ?

Re: 160m on ubitx??

Good point for me Bill. Not much heard here in suburban Melb with noise everywhere and no room for a decent receive antenna - other than the local am nets

Maybe a separate rig required for me but thought it worth asking as others may benefit more.

Yes the uBITX rotary encoder has A, B, and Switch leads.

That is what it looks like from the wiring diagram on the HFsignals website.

Cory -- digital is my first love after CW. Used my Bitx40 several times on WINLINK. Worked quite well. The new unit should be even better.
With a signalink, you'll need to put a 1 uf or so capacitor between the mic input and the signalink (transformer) output as DC isolation.

The signalink will drive the relays of the Bitx type devices quite well and I think the newer one has a transitor for that function also.

Subject: [BITX20] ubitx easy first radio?

I'm looking at the ubitx as a first radio kit. Is there any reason a
newbie shouldn't be able to get a working radio with it? Is any special
equipment needed to build it?

My primary interest is portable ops and digital modes, what is needed to
use it for psk31? USB signalink maybe?

Cory

Re: It's alive!

Hi Jack, have you tried 75/80 meters? I'm hoping it's sensitive there as I want to use it by my bedside at night. Also, you must have chose the DHL shipping option, In hindsight I wish I had done that, I have had so many bad experiences with DHL I just decided not to ship that way:-( Twice they have lost my packages in Germany.

Soldering iron, heat shrink tubing, hand tools, common sense and a case would help. No reason a newbie shouldn't be able to do it, just pay attention to details and follow the instructions.

Re: Small question about LCD mounting

Also a company called Microscale makes decal application products. Hobby Lobby used to carry it. Can't get carried away with it. You'll destroy the decal. It does soften it after all.?

In modeling you use them to snug down and into panel lines and such. Well if you're a good modeler you do. I mostly just messed them up! LOL!

Ordered on the 9th, delivered on the 14th. Boards are wrapped in bubble wrap, shipped in a semi-transparent plastic box encased in a tight-fitting shipping box. Now I have to wait for the case I ordered.

Ahhh bummer. I'm in the same boat it seems -- no update to the Paypal with tracking. I guess that means I won't be getting it before Xmas. Was hoping to get it set up over the break, but I'll live.

Santa came early

I hadn't realized Santa had traded in his sleigh for a yellow cargo van, but must he must have.? I had ordered a uBitx late Saturday or or was it very early Sunday morning.? Did not expect it to get in until next week, but the door bell rang and there was Santa disguised as a DHL driver.? Along with the uBitx he also delivered a set of circuit boards I designed and ordered Saturday that should allow me to use a 1.8 to 2.8 inch TFT display instead of the standard LCD.? All I have to do is write some software.? But I think that some of the graphic display routines I have done for several other projects should take care of most of that.? I also found that a case I had made out of PCB material will work with just the moving of the front panel support brackets to a new location.? Now I know what I will be doing for the holidays.?

Re: Small question about LCD mounting

Michael and all, the product that softens the decal, to make it "snug
down" to the surface, is called "Solvaset". Available in hobby shops
and, I suspect, at Michaels stores.-- Rich WB2GXM

I forgot to add that there is one additional step the can be added if you
want a very professional-looking result for your water-slide decals. ?After
the decals have been installed and before you
put the clear Krylon coat over the top, you can apply a product to the
decals that softens the
decal backing material. I am not sure exactly what it is called but it is
available at hobby shops.

What this does is to pretty much eliminate any visible "seam" at the
edge of where you cut out the decal. Once this has dried and has been fixed
with clear Krylon
the end result is very close to what you would get if the lettering was
printed onto the panel
via a silkscreening procedure.
